Saint Xavier Stays Hot in 90-71 Victory over Missouri Baptist

ST. LOUIS – The Saint Xavier University men's basketball team (7-5, 2-2 CCAC) hit multiple season-highs in a 90-71 road win over Missouri Baptist University Tuesday evening a non-conference contest in St. Louis, Mo. SXU scored a season-best 90 points on a blistering 66.7 percent shooting (32-for-48) from the field, including a stellar 61.5 percent from three-point range (16-for-26), and they had a season-best 19 assists. Senior guard Cedric Johnson (Bellevue, Neb./Sioux Falls/Nebraska-Kearney/Bellevue West) scored a game-high 23 points on 9-for-13 shooting, along with five rebounds, four assists and a block. Junior forward Andre Brandon (Coralville, Iowa/Sauk Valley/Liberty) knocked down 5-of-8 from beyond the arc and finished with 17 points while shooting at a 66.7 percent clip (6-for-9) overall with two assists, a rebound and a steal.
  • Junior guard Sando Hill (Vanoss, Okla./Lyon/Seminole State/Vanoss) went 4-for-6 from deep and shot 6-of-8 from the field for 19 points. He added five assists, four steals and a rebound. It was the fifth straight game that he came away with four or more steals.
  • Freshman guard Jordan Streeter (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) scored a career-high 14 points and was 80.0 percent (4-of-5) from beyond the arc. He grabbed five rebounds with three assists, a block and a steal in just 22 minutes.
  • Their field goal percentage tied for the fifth-best in single-game history, tying a mark of 66.7 percent (32-for-48) vs. Spring Arbor University (Mich.) on December 7, 1984 in a 67-56 triumph.
  • The 16 three-pointers made are the most since they sank 17 treys at Indiana University South Bend in a 105-55 victory last season on November 16, 2022.
  • The Cougars were red-hot in the first half, making 73.9 percent of their shots (17-for-23) and sinking 8-of-11 threes (8-for-11) to carry a 51-44 halftime lead. Johnson had 15 points at the break while making 5-of-6 shot attempts, while Hill was 3-for-4 from the field with 10 points and a pair of steals.
  • Streeter hit a three-pointer on an assist from Johnson at the 15:31 mark to extend the lead to 59-50. SXU would hold the Spartans scoreless over the next four minutes to push its lead to 67-50 before a layup by MBU with 11:03 to go. Saint Xavier kept its double-digit lead the remainder of the contest, thanks to 53.3 percent shooting (8-for-15) from beyond the arc. Hill was 3-for-4 from deep and tallied nine points, while Brandon and Streeter sank two treys in the half. It was the fourth consecutive game that the Cougars shot better than 50.0 percent from the field.
Saint Xavier (7-5, 3-2 CCAC) has a quick turnaround as they face University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy in St. Louis on Wednesday, December 19 in St. Louis, Mo. The game is slated for a 7:00 pm tipoff.
