Trio Guides No. 11 Saint Xavier to 3-1 Victory over CCSJ

CHICAGO – Three different players for No. 11 Saint Xavier University men's volleyball (16-4/9-1 CCAC) finished each with 10 or more kills, a match-high tying 17 from freshman outside hitter Jan Lopuch (Krakow, Poland/I Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace Sportowe) and 11 kills apiece from freshman opposite hitter Oskar Krzyzak (Rzeszow, Poland/Szkota Mistrzostwa Sportowego Rzeszow) and junior outside hitter Vejas Cuplinskas (Riverside, Ill./Riverside Brookfield) in a four-set win (23-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-14) over Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) Thursday evening at the Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill. in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) matchup. Lopuch also tallied a career-high six service aces, with three digs and had an attack percentage of .609 percent (17-3-23), tied for the seventh-best in single-match mark in program history.

  • Krzyzak recorded an attack percentage of .529 (11-2-17) and added eight digs, a career-best three assists, two aces and a block.
  • Cuplinskas chipped in a career-high tying three blocks, two digs and a service ace.
  • Junior setter Jason Klein (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) dished out a match-best 44 assists, with six digs, an ace and a block.
  • Senior middle blocker Drew Ehlers (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) had seven kills on a .500 attack percentage (7-1-12), three blocks and an assist.
  • Junior middle blocker Jake McClain (Homer Glen, Ill./Marist) registered five kills and a match-high four blocks (one solo).
  • Freshman libero Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) finished with six digs, an assist and a kill.
  • Freshman setter Gavin McClenthen (Garden Prairie, Ill./Belvidere) made his collegiate debut and came away with a pair of assists.

No. 11 Saint Xavier (16-4/8-1 CCAC) has a quick turn-around, hosting Cornerstone University (Mich.) in a non-conference contest on Friday, March 17 at the Shannon Center. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 pm first serve.
