Box Score 2 South Bend, Ind. – The Saint Xavier University softball team (15-9/2-0 CCAC), play for the first time in over two weeks, started Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) competition with a sweep of Indiana University South Bend Tuesday afternoon in South Bend, Ind. Alexus Reese (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) homered and drove in two runs to aid junior pitcher
Laila Summers (Joliet, Ill./Providence Catholic), who threw her ninth complete game of the season in a 4-1 victory in game one. Senior outfielder
Lyda Robinson (Seneca, Ill./Seneca) was 3-for-4 with two RBI in game two to help sophomore pitcher
Julianne Claas (Menomonee, Falls, Wis./Hamilton) earn the win in 7-5 triumph in game two.
Game One:
- Reese went 2-for-3 with a run.
- Sophomore infielder Abbie Carr (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) was 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
- Freshman outfielder Haley Matlock (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) had two hits in three at-bats and drew a walk.
- Senior outfielder Nicole Lovato (Channahon, Ill./Minooka Community) was 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and a run.
- Summers (9-4) surrendered eight hits, one run and had three strikeouts.
- Senior catcher Sarah Bowen (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) opened the scoring in the top of the 1st with a sacrifice fly and Carr made it 2-0 with an RBI single.
- The Titans tallied a run in the bottom of the 5th off an RBI single.
- Reese provided Summers insurance in the top of the 7th with a two-run home run, her first of the season.
Game Two:
- Robinson added a stolen base and a run scored.
- Freshman infielder Kaitlyn Wright (Chicago, Ill./Marist) went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two runs.
- Lovato was 2-for-3 with two runs, an RBI and a steal.
- Matlock went 1-for-2 with an RBI, a walk and a stolen base.
- Claas (5-4) pitched her sixth complete game of the year and gave up 10 hits, five runs, four walks and posted six strikeouts.
- Bowen hit a sac fly to open the scoring again and Matlock sliced an RBI base hit to left to give SXU a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st.
- Robinson legged out an infield single to drive in Wright to put Saint Xavier up 3-0 in the top of the 2nd.
- Bowen scored on a wild pitch and Reese lifted a sacrifice fly in the top of the 3rd to extend the lead to 5-0.
- Lovato and Robinson hit back-to-back RBI singles to give the Cougars a 7-0 lead in the top of the 4th.
- IUSB hit a two-run home run and an RBI single to make it 7-3 in the bottom of the 6th.
- Indiana South Bend hit another two-run home run in the bottom of the 7th, however Claas induced a pop out to next batter to secure the win.
Saint Xavier (15-9/2-0 CCAC) has its home opener on Friday, March 31 at the SXU Softball Field when they take on Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in CCAC action. Game one is scheduled for a 3:00 pm start.
