Box Score CHICAGO – Freshman outside hitter
Jan Lopuch (Krakow, Poland/I Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace Sportowe) recorded a match-high 15 kills on a stellar .560 attack percentage (15-1-25) and had three service aces, including one off of match point, to guide No. 10 ranked and No. 1 seed Saint Xavier University men's volleyball (21-4/12-1 CCAC) to a three-set victory (25-13, 25-20, 25-15) over No. 4 Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament Semifinals.
It is the second year in a row that SXU has defeated TCC in the CCAC Semifinals, rallying back from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2. They will face No. 3 Judson University (Ill.), who upset No. 2 Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in four sets in the match prior to Saint Xavier's. It is also the second consecutive season the Cougars will play the Eagles for the CCAC Tournament Championship with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NAIA Men's Volleyball National Championship Tournament that begins on Tuesday, April 11.
- Freshman opposite hitter Oskar Krzyzak (Rzeszow, Poland/Szkota Mistrzostwa Sportowego Rzeszow) also played well, collecting 11 kills on a .471 attack percentage (11-3-17) and added three blocks.
- Junior setter Jason Klein (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) handed out 27 assists with three blocks and a pair of digs.
- Junior outside hitter Vejas Cuplinskas (Riverside, Ill./Riverside Brookfield) registered five kills, along with two digs and an ace.
- Junior middle blocker John Glennon (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) came away with four kills and three blocks (one solo), while senior middle blocker Drew Ehlers (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) added three blocks and a kill.
- Freshman libero Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) finished with a match-best six digs and he had three assists.
- SXU will be making its fourth consecutive CCAC Tournament Championship appearance under head coach Tom Ryan.
No. 10 and No. 1 seed Saint Xavier (21-4/12-1 CCAC) hosts No. 3 Judson University in the CCAC Tournament Championship on Saturday, April 1 at the Shannon Center. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 pm first serve.
