Glennon & McClain Tough; No. 11 Saint Xavier Sweeps Roosevelt

CHICAGO – Junior middle blocker John Glennon (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) and junior middle blocker Jake McClain (Homer Glen, Ill./Marist) each finished with nine kills as No. 11 Saint Xavier University men's volleyball (14-3/8-0 CCAC) swept Roosevelt University (Ill.) in three sets (25-9, 25-10, 25-17) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Thursday evening at the Goodman Center in Chicago, Ill. Glennon posted an attack percentage of .727 (9-1-11), while McClain had a .667 attack percentage (9-1-12), as the Cougars registered a team attack percentage of .542 (48-9-72). It was the third-best team attack percentage in single-match history (minimum 50 attempts) and just the fourth time in program history that they had .500 attack percentage or better in a match.

  • Glennon added four blocks (one solo) and a dig, and McClain had three digs, three blocks (one solos) and a service ace.
  • Junior outside hitter Vejas Cuplinskas (Riverside, Ill./Riverside Brookfield) posted seven kills on an attack percentage of .667 (7-1-9) and had a dig.
  • Junior setter Jason Klein (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) came away with 37 digs, three digs, an ace and a kill.
  • Sophomore outside hitter Kegan Olig (Fond du Loc, Wis./Fond du Loc) recorded six kills, a dig, a service ace and a solo block.
  • Sophomore outside hitter Zach Carroll (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) collected five kills, two blocks, an assist and a dig.
  • Freshman outside hitter Aedan Vanegas (Rochester, N.Y./Spencerport) had four kills and an ace.
  • Freshman libero Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) had a team-best six digs and a career-high three service aces, along with two assists and a kill.
  • Freshman outside hitter Jan Lopuch (Krakow, Poland/I Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace Sportowe) finished with three blocks, three kills and two digs, while freshman opposite hitter Oskar Krzyzak (Rzeszow, Poland/Szkota Mistrzostwa Sportowego Rzeszow) tallied three kills and an ace.

No. 11 Saint Xavier (14-3/7-0 CCAC) hosts Campbellsville University (Ky.) at the Shannon Center on Saturday, March 11. The match is scheduled for a 2:00 pm first serve.
