Natalie Dybas (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) made two saves in her collegiate debut to help guide the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team (1-0, 0-0 CCAC) to a 4-0 victory over University of Michigan-Dearborn in the season opening match for both teams Saturday afternoon at Bruce R. Neida Ocampo (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Harper/Conant) also tallied a goal for SXU in the win.
- The Cougars outshot the Wolverines on the afternoon by a 15-5 margin. Schreiber finished with three shots on goal on three shot attempts in 83 minutes.
- Sophomore midfielder Veronica Davila (Bourbonnais, Ill./Governors State/Bradley-Bourbonnais) also had three shot attempts in her 66 minutes of action off the bench in her Saint Xavier debut.
- Schreiber registered the first goal of the season for SXU with a strike from 15 yards out off a pass from freshman forward Alex Jonaitis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) in the 3rd minute. Jonaitis, making her collegiate debut, had two shots on goal in 46 minutes.
- Ocampo doubled the lead in the 29th minute on a shot from inside the 18-yard box. After receiving a pass from sophomore midfielder Hailey Henry (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah Community), Ocampo outworked the defender, creating an opening for her first goal of the season.
- Diaz recorded both second-half goals for the Cougars. She gathered a loose ball in front of the net in the 66th minute to extend the lead to 3-0. Diaz capped the scoring in the 90th minute with a laser into the upper right corner from a setup by Henry.
Saint Xavier (1-0/0-0 CCAC) travels to Mishawaka, Ind. to face Bethel University (Ind.) on Tuesday, August 29. The match is slated for a 5:00 pm central start.
