Alex Jonaitis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) scored her first collegiate goal and it proved to be the game-winner in a 1-0 victory for Saint Xavier University women's soccer (2-0, 0-0 CCAC) Tuesday evening in Mishawaka, Ind. Freshman goalkeeper
Natalie Dybas (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) was tough in net for the Cougars, making four saves to post her second consecutive shutout.
- Jonaitis had three of the team's five shot attempts and two of their three shots on goal in 82 minutes of playing time.
- Sophomore midfielder Veronica Davila (Bourbonnais, Ill./Governors State/Bradley-Bourbonnais) had the other shot on goal for the Cougars.
- In the 38th minute, Jonaitis posted the first shot on goal in the half and found the back of the net for the match's lone tally.
- Dybas made one save in the first 45 minutes and her defense kept the Pilots at bay throughout the second half. Despite facing a flurry of shots in the final six minutes by BU, Dybas made three saves to preserve the win for SXU.
Saint Xavier (2-0/0-0 CCAC) returns to Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field for a matchup with Point Park University (Pa.) on Thursday, August 31. The match is slated for a 10:00 am start.
