CHICAGO – Freshman goalkeeper
Natalie Dybas (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) recorded her third consecutive shutout to start her collegiate career and made four saves to help the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team (2-0-1, 0-0 CCAC) earn a 0-0 draw with Point Park University Thursday afternoon at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago, Ill. It is the first time since the 2001 season that the Cougars have started a season with three straight shutouts when they won 1-0 over Mount St. Clare University (Iowa), 1-0 at St. Ambrose University (Iowa) and 1-0 at Aquinas College (Mich.).
- Point Park had a slight edge in shots with nine to the eight taken by Saint Xavier.
- Freshman forward Alex Jonaitis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) had a match-high four shot attempts with one shot on goal.
- Junior forward Esmeralda Diaz (Chicago, Ill./Solorio Academy) had a shot on goal in 75 minutes of action.
- Senior midfielder Neida Ocampo (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Harper/Conant) tallied a pair of shot attempts in 81 minutes of play.
- Dybas made a save in the second minute off a header and stopped another header attempt in the 38th minute.
- Diaz had a good look in the 10th minute, but had her shot saved by the PPU goalkeeper.
- Dybas stopped a long shot on goal in the 58th minute.
- Both teams traded saves in the 65th and 66th minutes, respectively. Jonaitis had her shot saved and Dybas posted a stop just over 30 seconds later.
- Ocampo had a shot attempt in the 81st minute that went wide and was setup by a Jonaitis corner kick. Jonaitis had the final shot attempt in the match go just wide in the 86th minute.
Saint Xavier (2-0-1/0-0 CCAC) hosts NCAA Division III Fontbonne University (Iowa) at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field on Sunday, September 3. The match is scheduled for an 11:00 am start.
