Dorian Mahone (Carol Stream, Ill./Willowbrook) tallied the game-tying goal in the 65
th minute for the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team (0-0-2, 0-0 CCAC) Wednesday evening in a 1-1 draw with Huntington University (Ind.) at King Stadium in Huntington, Ind. Osvaldo Ramirez (Chicago, Ill./Goode STEM Academy) made his collegiate debut and posted five saves. The Foresters outshot Saint Xavier by a 13-9 margin on the night.
- Senior midfielder Fernando Barragan (Burbank, Ill./Moraine Valley/Reavis) finished with three shot attempts with one shot on goal. He also assisted on Mahone's goal for his first helper of the season.
- Junior midfielder Jaedan Aguilera (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere North) registered two shot attempts with one shot on goal in 73 minutes of action.
- HU controlled the pace in the first half, recording eight shots to three by the Cougars. Ramirez made four of his five saves in the frame.
- Barragan just missed a goal, but a save by a Huntington defender kept the match even in the 50th minute.
- The Foresters broke the scoreless tie in the 54th minute on a goal by forward Higor Barbieri on an assist from Sam Dolobaipu.
- Mahone buried a shot in the back of the net for his first goal of the season just over 11 minutes later on a pass from Barragan, his first assist of the year.
- SXU had another scoring chance when Mahone had his shot strike the crossbar in the 70th minute.
- The Saint Xavier defense was tough down the stretch, allowing just four shot attempts and one shot on goal in the final 35 minutes of regulation.
Saint Xavier (0-0-2/0-0 CCAC) travels to Mount Vernon, Ohio to face Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio) on Saturday, August 26. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 pm central start.
