CHICAGO – The Saint Xavier University men's soccer team (2-1-4, 0-0 CCAC) suffered its first loss of the season with a 1-0 set back to NCAA Division II Purdue University Northwest to finish their non-conference schedule Tuesday evening at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago, Ill. Senior midfielder
Fernando Barragan (Burbank, Ill./Moraine Valley/Reavis) led the attack for the Cougars with four shot attempts and three shots on goal while playing the full 90 minutes.
- Graduate student goalkeeper Andres Zamora (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) made three saves in net and took his first loss of the season (1-1-2).
- Sophomore midfielder Daniel Diaz (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) collected three shot attempts with one shot on goal.
- Sophomore midfielder Omar Aparicio (Chicago, Ill./Hancock College Prep) finished with a shot on goal while playing the full time.
- The Pride recorded the lone goal in the match in the 9th minute.
- Midway through the opening half, Barragan and Aparicio had good looks, but both of their shots were saved.
- The defenses for both teams tightened up in the second half as both teams only were able to get a total of seven shots off (SXU – 4, PNW – 3).
Saint Xavier (2-1-4/0-0 CCAC) begins Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) competition at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field on Saturday, September 16. They host Indiana University Northwest with the match scheduled for a 1:30 pm start.
