CHICAGO – Junior outside hitter
Connie LeBel (Crestwood, Ill./DePaul/Ferris State/Mother McAuley), making her SXU debut, posted a match-high 21 kills, along with four digs and two assists to guide the Saint Xavier University women's volleyball team (4-6, 2-1 CCAC) to a four-set victory (25-18,21-25,25-20,25-16) over Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) Tuesday evening at the Shannon Center in Chicago. For the Cougars, they recorded team-highs for the season in kills (55), assists (47) and service aces (13).
- Senior middle blocker Courtney Hunter (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) tallied 14 kills, three digs, a career-best three service aces and a pair of blocks.
- Sophomore outside hitter Jenny Jensen (Orland Park, Ill./Cardinal Stritch/Sandburg) was the third SXU player with 10 or more kills, finishing with 10, along with three digs, two blocks and an assist.
- Freshman setter Abbey Opilka (Dyer, Ind./Hanover Central) handed out a career-high 42 assists and had two digs, an ace and a kill.
- Sophomore middle blocker Nicole Grochola (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) recorded five kills and had two block assists.
- Junior opposite hitter Abby Gentile (Blissfield, Mich./Lourdes/Blissfield) came away with four kills, two blocks and two digs.
- Junior setter Kaleigh Ritter (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) scooped up a match-best 15 digs and finished with four service aces and two assists.
- Sophomore libero Ariel Hoskin (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) was tough defensively with 11 digs and added a pair of aces
- Sophomore defensive specialist Katie DeHaan (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) totaled seven digs and a season-high three service aces.
Saint Xavier (4-6/2-1 CCAC) makes the short trip to Whiting, Ind. to take on Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) on Thursday, September 14. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start.
