Davila Tallies Brace for SXU Women’s Soccer in 2-2 Draw at Viterbo

La Crosse, Wis. – Sophomore midfielder Veronica Davila (Bourbonnais, Ill./Governors State/Bradley-Bourbonnais) scored her first two collegiate goals for Saint Xavier University women's soccer (3-0-3, 1-0-1 CCAC) in a 2-2 draw with Viterbo University (Wis.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Tuesday afternoon in La Crosse, Wis. It was the first-ever meeting between the Cougars and V-Hawks and it was the first CCAC match for VU as they joined the conference in both men's and women's soccer before the start of the 2023 season.
  • Junior goalkeeper Eden Suda (Western Springs, Ill./Governors State/Lyons Township) made the start in goal and finished with two saves to run her record to 1-0-1.
  • Freshman forward Alex Jonaitis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) posted a match-high five shot attempts.
  • Senior midfielder Neida Ocampo (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Harper/Conant) registered four shot attempts with two shots on goal.
  • Sophomore midfielder Hailey Henry (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah Community) had two shot attempts and one shot on goal.
  • Viterbo struck first with a goal in the 12th minute.
  • Davila squared the match just over three and a half minutes later with her first collegiate goal in the 16th minute off of a penalty kick.
  • Suda made both of her saves in the first half and SXU went into the halftime break tied at 1-1.
  • The V-Hawks retook the lead in the 72nd minute to carry a 2-1 advantage.
  • Davila evened the score at 2-2 in the 79th minute, converting her second penalty kick. She finished with two shots attempts and both found the back of the net for Saint Xavier.
  • VU had a late rush in the final minute that saw a shot hit the crossbar and the rebounded shot attempt went wide right to keep the score knotted at 2-2.
Saint Xavier (3-0-3/1-0-1 CCAC) makes its way to Davenport, Iowa to take on St. Ambrose University (Iowa) in CCAC competition on Saturday, September 23. The match is scheduled for a 2:30 pm kickoff.
