Jessie Cardiel (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) recorded his first collegiate goal for Saint Xavier University men's soccer (3-2-4, 1-1 CCAC), however the Cougars suffered a 3-1 defeat to Viterbo University (Wis.) Wednesday afternoon in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play in La Crosse, Wis. SXU was outshot in the road contest by a 15-6 margin. It was the first meeting between the two programs since they finished in a 0-0 draw on September 30, 2000. VU joined the CCAC in both men's and women's soccer prior to the start of the 2023 season.
- Graduate student goalkeeper Andres Zamora (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) made six saves in the loss and now sports a 2-2-2 record while in goal for Saint Xavier.
- Senior midfielder Andy Lomeli (Dyer, Ind./Roosevelt/Valparaiso/Lake Central) registered a shot on goal and added an assist, his first of the year.
- Sophomore midfielder Omar Aparicio (Chicago, Ill./Hancock College Prep) and junior midfielder Nick Tamayo (Palos Park, Ill./North Central/Stagg) also had a shot on goal for the Cougars.
- The V-Hawks took the lead in the fifth minute of action and would hold that advantage into halftime.
- Cardiel received a pass from Lomeli in the 49th minute and hit the back of the net.
- Viterbo went back ahead with the game-winning goal in the 54th minute and they would add an insurance tally in the 68th minute to pull away for the win.
Saint Xavier (3-2-4/1-1 CCAC) makes its way to Davenport, Iowa to take on St. Ambrose University (Iowa) in a CCAC matchup on Saturday, September 23. The match is scheduled for a 12:00 pm start.
