No. 8 Saint Xavier Men’s Volleyball Swept by No. 4 OUAZ

CHICAGO – No. 8 ranked Saint Xavier University men's volleyball (0-2/0-0 CCAC) was swept by No. 4 Ottawa University Arizona (20-25, 23-25, 17-25) Friday evening on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill. in the sixth match of the 2024 Chicago Tournament co-hosted by the Cougars and Judson University (Ill.). Junior outside hitter Matt Pennala (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach City/St. John Bosco) led the Cougars with nine kills, along with two digs, an assist and a solo block. Redshirt junior outside hitter Vejas Cuplinskas (Riverside, Ill./Riverside Brookfield) collected seven kills, three blocks (one solo) and a dig.
  • Sophomore outside hitter Jan Lopuch (Krakow, Poland/I Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace Sportowego) came away with six kills, two digs and a block.
  • Freshman setter Cameron Daniels (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) recorded 16 assists and three digs.
  • Senior middle blocker John Glennon (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) posted three blocks and he had a kill.
  • Fifth-year senior setter Christian Oviedo (Brea, Calif./Concordia-Irvine/Servite) tallied seven assists and three digs.
  • Redshirt junior middle blocker Shane Ooms (Shorewood, Ill./Minooka Community) had a pair of kills and a dig.
  • Junior middle blocker Alessandro Gianotti (Desio, Italy/BYU/Leonardo Da Vinci) finished with an assist, a dig and a kill.
  • Sophomore libero Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) had a team-leading six digs, along with an assist and a service ace.
No. 8 Saint Xavier (0-2/0-0 CCAC) wraps up play in the 2024 Chicago Tournament when they take on No. 10 William Penn University (Iowa) on Saturday, January 27 at 10:00 am at the Shannon Center.
