CHICAGO – The Saint Xavier University Esports teams resumed competition when the Spring portion of their schedule started with the Rocket League (RL) team participating in the Great Lakes Collegiate Rocket League (GLCRL) Spring Minor One Tournament on Friday, January 19 and RL squad was in action again with a Great Lakes Esports Conference (GLEC) contest against Tiffin University (Ohio) on Wednesday, January 24. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (SSBU) also competed in a GLEC contest on January 24 with a matchup against Bethel University (Ind.). Overwatch faced off vs Lourdes University (Ohio) on Friday, January 26.

Rocket League:

The Rocket League crew featured a lineup of 'Orc' senior Peyton Benes (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew), 'IamDJ6' freshman Gabriel Krueger (Bolingbrook, Ill./Homeschool) and 'Toast' sophomore Marcos Nunez (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community).
The Cougars earned a 3-2 victory over Dayton University (Mich.) in the first round of the GLCRL Tournament. They suffered a 3-0 setback to Indiana University and were eliminated by Thomas College (Maine), 3-0, in the double-elimination tournament.
SXU squared off with the Dragons in a conference contest and were swept 3-0.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate:

The four-person lineup for SSBU for Saint Xavier featured 'Blokit' sophomore Francisco Cayetano-Perez (Chicago, Ill./Curie), 'B-Bop' sophomore Brian Dykstra (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew), 'Frieren' freshman Melissa Rios Medina (Mount Prospect, Ill./Hersey) and 'Immersed' sophomore Javier Rodriguez (Chicago, Ill./Hancock College Prep).
The Cougars were topped by the Pilots in the GLEC matchup, 2-0.

Overwatch:

The Overwatch team featured the five-person lineup of 'alphabet' sophomore William Barquero Roma (Miami, Fla./Archimedean Upper Conservatory), 'Twifts' senior Malachi Beard (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park), 'Citronboss27' sophomore Michael Guzaitis (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) and 'Glocktopus' senior Michael Hamm (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence).
SXU took down the Gray Wolves with a 3-1 victory.
 
Saint Xavier (30-37, 16-12 GLEC) will have SSBU play a pair of matches on Saturday, February 3 when they face Concordia University Ann Arbor (Mich.) and Marietta College (Ohio) in GLEC action. RL also faces CUAA on Saturday, February 3 in a GLEC contest and Overwatch takes on Albion College (Mich.) in a GLEC matchup on Saturday, February 3.
