CHICAGO – Despite a team-best 21 points and a game-high 11 rebounds by Senior guard Cedric Johnson (Bellevue, Neb./Sioux Falls/Nebraska-Kearney/Bellevue West), his fourth double-double of the season, the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team (8-6, 3-3 CCAC) lost to No. 20 Roosevelt University (Ill.), 69-67, in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) matchup Saturday afternoon on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill. The Cougars had a chance to send the game to overtime in the final seconds as junior guard Sando Hill (Vanoss, Okla./Lyon/Seminole State/Vanoss) made his first foul shot before purposely missing his second attempt. Junior forward Andre Brandon (Coralville, Iowa/Sauk Valley/Liberty) was able to grab the rebound, however his shot was blocked as time expired to snap SXU's six-game winning streak.

• Johnson finished 7-for-16 from the field and made 6-of-7 free throws to eclipse 20 points for the 13^th time in 14 games. He also had an assist and a steal in 39 minutes on the court.
• Junior forward Andre Brandon (Coralville, Iowa/Sauk Valley/Liberty) tallied 17 points, his 11^th double-digit scoring game this year, along with six rebounds, an assist and a steal.
• Freshman forward Marko Tojagic (Belgrade, Serbia/Saint Andrews) scored a career-best 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting in a season-high tying 26 minutes off the bench. He also had three rebounds and a steal.
• Freshman forward James Stevenson (Sun River Terrace, Ill./Momence) recorded six points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal.
• Hill finished with a season-high six rebounds along with five assists, five points, two steals and a block.
• Freshman guard Jordan Streeter (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) added five points, two rebounds and an assist.
• SXU started the game on a 7-0 run forcing an RU timeout after Brandon knocked down a jumper in the lane at the 17:04 mark and led 11-2 in the opening five minutes. The Lakers went on a 19-10 run over the next eight minutes to tie the game at 21-21 after a pair of foul shots with 6:29 left in the first half. Roosevelt converted back-to-back steals with a layup and a three-pointer to go up 26-21 and had Saint Xavier call timeout with 5:48 remaining. The Cougars ended the half on a 12-6 run with Tojagic scoring six of his 13 points during that stretch and went into the break with a 33-32 advantage.
• RU made a three to start the second half and went 7-for-15 (46.7 percent) in the final 20 minutes, while SXU was just 1-for-5 in the frame. Saint Xavier was 13-for-17 from the foul line in the second half and finished 18-for-24 for the game. The Lakers took their largest lead, 61-48, after a fastbreak layup off of a steal with 9:19 left, however the Cougar defense would allow just six points to rest of the game and closed out the contest on a 19-6 run. Johnson scored eight of his 15 second half points in the final 10 minutes, while Tojagic had six points and Hill scored all five of his points to set up the final play of the game.

Saint Xavier (8-6, 3-3 CCAC) makes its way to South Bend, Ind. to play Indiana University South Bend in CCAC action on Wednesday, January 10. The game is slated for a 6:00 pm central start.
