Davila Scores in 1-1 Draw for SXU Women’s Soccer vs. HCC

CHICAGO – Junior midfielder Veronica Davila (Bourbonnais, Ill./Governors State/Bradley-Bourbonnais) netted her team-leading sixth goal of the season that ended up being the tying goal as Saint Xavier University women's soccer (5-3-4, 3-1-3 CCAC) finished in a 1-1 draw with Holy Cross College (Ind.) on Homecoming at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago, Ill. in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Saturday evening. The Cougars tied their season-high with 19 shot attempts, with 13 coming in the second half. The draw was the third consecutive for SXU and their fourth overall in 2024.
  • Davila recorded a match-high six shot attempts with two shots on goal while playing all 90 minutes.
  • Sophomore forward Alex Jonaitis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) registered five shot attempts with three shots on goal in 75 minutes on the pitch.
  • Fifth-year senior midfielder Neida Ocampo (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Harper/Conant) came away with four shot attempts and also logged 90 minutes of action.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Natalie Dybas (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) made a pair of saves, both coming in the first half, and sees her record in goal move to 2-3-3.
  • Senior midfielder Louisa Schreiber (Bonndorf, Germany/Morton/Hans-Thoma-Schule) had two shot attempts and an assist.
  • Saint Xavier controlled the pace in the first half collecting five shot attempts and four corner kicks before the Saints scored the first goal of the match in the 30th minute.
  • Holy Cross had two more chances to add to their lead, however Dybas made saves in the 34th and 35th minutes, just over 30 seconds apart.
  • In the 65th minute Davila's shot hit the right post after a free kick.
  • A foul deep in Holy Cross territory set up a free kick from Schreiber from the near right side of the pitch. She sent a cross pass across the goal box that Davila booted in to tie the match.
Saint Xavier (5-3-4/3-1-3 CCAC) makes the trip to Crown Point, Ind. to take on Governors State University (Ill.) in a CCAC contest on Wednesday, October 23. The match is slated for a 7:00 pm start.
