Offensive Outburst Propels SXU to 5-1 Victory over GSU

Crown Point, Ind. – Sophomore forward Alex Jonaitis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) scored her first two goals of the season and senior midfielder Louisa Schreiber (Bonndorf, Germany/Morton/Hans-Thoma-Schule) collected a pair of assists while scoring a goal to help lead the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team (6-3-4, 4-1-3 CCAC) to a 5-1 triumph over Governors State University (Ill.) in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) contest Wednesday evening at the SportsPlex in Crown Point, Ind. SXU recorded a season-high five goals, along with a season-best 22 shot attempts and a season-high 12 shots on goal. The win pulls the Cougars within four points of conference-leading Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.), who sit atop the table with 19 points.
  • Sophomore defender/midfielder Stephanie Quevedo (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) scored her first collegiate goal, which was the game-winner.
  • Senior midfielder/defender Marissa Murillo (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) also recorded her first collegiate goal in 43 minutes of action.
  • Junior midfielder Veronica Davila (Bourbonnais, Ill./Governors State/Bradley-Bourbonnais) registered a match-leading six shot attempts with two shots on goal. She also tallied her first assists of the year.
  • Fifth-year senior midfielder Neida Ocampo (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Harper/Conant) collected five shot attempts and three shots on goal.
  • Fifth-year senior goalkeeper Eden Suda (Western Springs, Ill./Governors State/Lyons Township) improved her record to 3-0-1 while in net and she came away with three saves.
  • Jonaitis received a pass from Davila and she found the back of the net in the 22nd minute for the first goal of the match.
  • The Jaguars squared the match just over two minutes later in the 24th minute when the converted a penalty kick.
  • Quevedo put Saint Xavier back in the lead a little over three minutes later in the 27th minute when she scored off a pass from Schreiber.
  • In the 75th minute, Murillo extended the advantage to 3-1. She finished the match with two shots on goal.
  • Schreiber netted her third goal of the 2024 campaign in the 78th minute to push the lead to 4-1.
  • Jonaitis capped the scoring in the 83rd minute with her second goal of the evening on an assist from Schreiber.
Saint Xavier (6-3-4/4-1-3 CCAC) celebrates 'Senior Day' on Saturday, October 26 before their match with Indiana University South Bend at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field. The match is set for a 2:00 pm start.
