Schreiber Shines; SXU Tops IUSB, 5-0, on ‘Senior Day’

CHICAGO – Senior midfielder Louisa Schreiber (Bonndorf, Germany/Morton/Hans-Thoma-Schule) tallied a pair of goals and she added an assist as Saint Xavier University women's soccer (7-3-4, 5-1-3 CCAC) came away with a 5-0 victory over Indiana University South Bend in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) match Saturday afternoon at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago, Ill. SXU finishes the regular season unbeaten at Deaton Field, going 5-0-2, and outscoring their opponents 12-2 with five shutouts. Saint Xavier also recorded a season-high 28 shot attempts and 16 shots on goal. The win also pulls the Cougars within three points on conference-leading St. Ambrose University (Iowa), who has 21 points.

Before the match, SXU celebrated 'Senior Day' and recognized eight players: midfielder Esmeralda Diaz (Chicago, Ill./Solorio Academy), midfielder/defender Jacqueline Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill./Curie), defender Isabel Guzman (Burbank, Ill./Lewis/Reavis), midfielder/defender Marissa Murillo (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West), defender/midfielder Gina Paparelli (Midlothian, Ill./Tinley Park), defender Jessica Santoyo (Berwyn, Ill./Morton/Morton West), Schreiber and goalkeeper Eden Suda (Western Springs, Ill./Governors State/Lyons Township).
  • Fifth-year senior midfielder Neida Ocampo (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Harper/Conant), who was honored on 'Senior Day' last season, recorded a goal and an assist.
  • Junior midfielder Veronica Davila (Bourbonnais, Ill./Governors State/Bradley-Bourbonnais) also finished the match with a goal and an assist in 56 minutes on the pitch.
  • Junior midfielder Vicki Ferrer (Cicero, Ill./Morton/Morton East) netted her first goal of the season with two shot attempts in 83 minutes off the bench.
  • Junior midfielder Hope Lewis (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) registered her first assist of the year and she had a shot attempt in 90 minutes.
  • Murillo, sophomore forward Alex Jonaitis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) and sophomore defender/midfielder Stephanie Quevedo (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) each had three shot attempts and two shots on goal, respectively.
  • Suda came away with a pair of saves, one in each half, while posting her third shutout of the 2024 campaign and improving to 4-0-1 in net.
  • Schreiber scored the eventual game-winning goal off of a pass from Davila in the 10th minute.
  • In the 40th minute, Schreiber set up Davila for her team-leading seventh goal of the year to give Saint Xavier a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
  • The Cougars broke through the Titan defense in the closing minutes, scoring three goals in the final five minutes.
  • Schreiber recorded her fifth goal of 2024 off of a pass from Ocampo in the 85th minute.
  • Ocampo made it 4-0, netting her second goal of the season, on an assist from Lewis in the 88th minute.
  • Ferrer scored unassisted just over a minute later in the 89th minute.
Saint Xavier (7-3-4/5-1-3 CCAC) travels to Elgin, Ill. to play Judson University (Ill.) in CCAC action on Tuesday, October 29. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 pm kickoff.
