University Park, Ill. – Senior outside hitter
Connie LeBel (Crestwood, Ill./DePaul/Ferris State/Mother McAuley) posted a match-high 17 kills on a .351 attack percentage (17-4-37) to help lead Saint Xavier University women's volleyball (14-10, 10-1 CCAC) to a three-set victory (25-19, 25-16, 25-21) over Governors State University (Ill.) Saturday afternoon in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) contest at the Athletics and Recreation Center in University Park, Ill. LeBel added eight digs, an assist and a service ace. She recorded her second-best attack percentage of the season, and it was the fourth time in 2024 that she has had an attack percentage of .300 or better. As a team, the Cougars had a .240 attack percentage (45-20-104), their fifth-best attack percentage of the season.
- Redshirt junior setter Samantha Hovey (Mackinaw, Ill./Heartland/Dee-Mack) paced the offense as she issued a match-best 34 assists, along with four kills, three aces and three digs.
- Junior middle blocker Nicole Grochola (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) finished with eight kills and two blocks (one solo), while fifth-year senior middle blocker Courtney Hunter (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) added seven kills.
- junior outside hitter Jenny Jensen (Orland Park, Ill./Cardinal Stritch/Sandburg) came away with six kills, a block and a dig.
- Redshirt junior libero Avanna Martinez (Coamo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Ponceno) tallied a match-leading 18 digs and she had a pair of assists.
- Junior defensive specialist Katie DeHaan (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) was also tough defensively as she scooped up 15 digs, tied for her second-most in a match this year, and she added an assist.
- Freshman defensive specialist Taylor Vann (Oklahoma City, Okla./Bishop McGuinness Catholic) collected six digs, freshman middle blocker Carrington Smith (Flossmoor, Ill./Marian Catholic) had three kills and junior defensive specialist Ariel Hoskin (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) chipped in a dig.
Saint Xavier (14-10/10-1 CCAC) hosts Indiana University South Bend at the Shannon Center in CCAC action on Tuesday, October 29. The match is set for a 7:00 pm first serve.
