Big Third Quarter Allows SXU to Top Cleary, 87-83

Howell, Mich. – Junior guard Jaidn Green (Evansville, Ind./Evansville North) scored 17 of her team-leading 22 points in the second half, including 10 points in the third quarter to help Saint Xavier University women's basketball (2-3, 0-0 CCAC) rally back from a 46-37 deficit at halftime, as they outscored Cleary University (Wis.) 31-13 in the third period thanks to a 57.1 percent shooting percentage (8-for-14) and draining all 13 of their free-throw attempts, to come away with an 87-83 victory Saturday afternoon in Howell, Mich. Overall, SXU shot at a season-best 51.8 percent clip (29-for-56) and was 50.0 percent (7-for-14) from three-point range, despite being outscored in the first, second and fourth quarters. The Cougars were nearly perfect from the foul line, making 22 of their 23 attempts (95.7 percent), with season-highs in makes and attempts.
  • Green logged 37 minutes of the court, shooting 6-for-11 from the field, was 3-for-6 from beyond the arc and was 7-for-7 from the charity stripe. She added three assists, a rebound and steal.
  • Graduate student guard/forward Ryann Ogarek (Joliet, Ill./Benedictine/Lewis/Providence Catholic) was a big factor in the win, scoring 20 points on a 50.0 percent effort (10-for-2) from the floor. She grabbed six rebounds with two assists and a steal in 32 minutes.
  • Redshirt junior guard Hayley Macdonald (Canberra, Australia/Williston State/Lake Ginninderra) provided a spark off the bench, scoring 17 points with 10 coming in the second half for a career-high as a Cougar. She was 4-for-4 from the field, 2-for-2 from three-point range and 7-for-8 from the free-throw line. Macdonald also hauled in six rebounds with three assists, a blocked shot and a steal.
  • Senior guard Aaliyahna Derrell (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sand Creek) also finished in double-figures with 10 points, while going 6-for-6 from the foul line. She dished out a season-best nine assists and added three rebounds.
  • Junior forward Kaliah Neighbors (Evansville, Ind./Evansville North) made her first start of the season, collecting eight points and a team-high seven rebounds. She also had two assists and a block in 27 minutes of action.
  • Freshman forward Veronica Bafia (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) also finished with eight points while adding two assists, a rebound and steal.
Saint Xavier (2-3/0-0 CCAC) has a quick turnaround as they face Aquinas College (Mich.) on Sunday, November 17. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 pm central start in Grand Rapids, Mich.
