Grand Rapids, Mich. – For the second day in a row, junior guard
Jaidn Green (Evansville, Ind./Evansville North) led the Saint Xavier University women's basketball team (3-3, 0-0 CCAC), this time scoring a career-high 32 points to guide the Cougars to a 68-66 triumph over Aquinas College (Mich.) Sunday afternoon at Sturrus Sports Center in Grand Rapids, Mich. Green scored 13 of SXU's 15 points in the fourth quarter, including the final eight, while making five of her eight shot attempts. She also finished the game with career-highs in field goals made (12) and attempted (25), along with five rebounds, two assists and two steals to help run Saint Xavier's winning streak to three straight victories.
The Cougars jumped out to a 19-8 lead in the opening period with freshman forward
Veronica Bafia (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) pouring in seven points. She ended the game with a career-best 11 rebounds (five offensive) as well as nine points and an assist. SXU went into the locker room up 40-23 after redshirt junior guard
Hayley Macdonald (Canberra, Australia/Williston State/Lake Ginninderra) made a buzzer-beating layup off a pass from Green. The Saints chipped away in the second half, shooting at a 62.1 percent clip (18-for-29), as Saint Xavier went cold from the field (11-for-36), however the Cougars did not relinquish the lead despite Aquinas cutting the to one point, 67-66, with 27 left in regulation. Green split a pair of foul shots with nine second to go and SXU held on to claim the road win.
- In 21 minutes off the bench, Macdonald totaled a season-best six assists, with six points and three rebounds.
- Graduate student guard/forward Ryann Ogarek (Joliet, Ill./Benedictine/Lewis/Providence Catholic) posted her second double-digit rebound effort of the season, hauling in 10. She also scored six points, with three assists and a season-high three steals.
- Junior forward Kaliah Neighbors (Evansville, Ind./Evansville North) equaled her season-best in rebound with seven. She was 3-for-4 from the floor with six points, along with two assists, a block and a steal.
- Senior guard Aaliyahna Derrell (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sand Creek) tallied six points as well while adding an assist, a rebound and a steal.
Saint Xavier (3-3/0-0 CCAC) starts Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play on Wednesday, November 20 when they host Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) at the Shannon Center. The game is set for a 5:00 pm tipoff on Bob Hallberg Court in Chicago, Ill.
