Alyssa Crenshaw (Algonquin, Ill./Dundee-Crown) scored six over her 13 points, and six of 11 of SXU points to come away with a thrilling 83-81 comeback victory over Governors State University (Ill.) in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) contest Saturday afternoon on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill. Crenshaw finished the game with her first double-double of the season, grabbing a season-best 15 rebounds and a season-high in points, as well as an assist, a block and a steal in 32 minutes off the bench.
Saint Xavier went on a 21-8 run in the final frame, started by a three by freshman guard
Maeve Egan (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) and they took a 70-68 lead after junior guard
Jaidn Green (Evansville, Ind./Evansville North) knocked down a three-pointer with 1:39 in regulation before the Jaguars made a pair of shot in the final minute to force the extra period. Egan scored 10 of her 12 points in the fourth quarter while going 3-for-4 from the floor, was 2-for-2 from beyond the arc, and 2-for-2 from the foul line. Senior guard
Aaliyahna Derrell (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sand Creek) was clutch in the closing seconds of overtime, making three of her four foul shot attempts, and the Cougar defense forced a pair of missed shots to secure the win. It was the first overtime win for SXU since February 3, 2016, when they defeated Robert Morris University (Ill.), 99-91, in Arlington Heights, Ill.
- Graduate student guard/forward Ryann Ogarek (Joliet, Ill./Benedictine/Lewis/Providence Catholic) totaled 19 points, nine rebounds and three steals, including an interception on an in-bound pass that allowed Derrell to go to the foul line in OT.
- Derrell also tallied 19 points, along with a game-high six assists and three steals.
- Egan recorded a new career-high with 12 points, as well as a rebound and a steal in 23 minutes of playing time.
- Freshman forward Veronica Bafia (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) also finished in double-figures with 11 points. She grabbed eight rebounds and had two blocked shots in 32 minutes on the court.
- Green collected seven points, three rebounds and two assists.
- Saint Xavier pulled down a season-best 53 rebounds, their second game with 50 or more rebounds this year, and they tied their season high with 22 made free throws.
Saint Xavier (5-4/2-1 CCAC) hosts Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in CCAC action at the Shannon Center on Saturday, December 14. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start.
