CHICAGO – The Rocket League team of 'Orc' senior Peyton Benes (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew), 'IamDJ6' freshman Gabriel Krueger (Bolingbrook, Ill./Homeschool) and 'Toast' sophomore Marcos Nunez (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) claimed the Battle of Chicago crown with a pair of victories this weekend in the Battle of Chicago Tournament for the Saint Xavier University Esports team. The Cougars defeated host DePaul University (Ill.) by a 2-1 score and they swept College of DuPage (Ill.), 2-0, to come away with the tournament title.

The League of Legends crew of of 'Moochi' junior Xavier Bryant (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic), 'dmshadow' senior Daniel Mendez (Chicago, Ill./Daley/Spry Community Links), 'SomethingCool' sophomore Ahmed Osman (Chicago, Ill./Illinois-Chicago/Park House), 'WHAT U GOT' junior Armend Shabani (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) and 'Acrylik' freshman Charlie Zufan (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) also took part in the tournament, though their matches were exhibitions as they played a player down. SXU lost both of their matches to College of DuPage and DePaul by 1-0 decisions.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate:

• The four-person lineup for SSBU for Saint Xavier featured 'Blokit' sophomore Francisco Cayetano-Perez (Chicago, Ill./Curie), 'B-Bop' sophomore Brian Dykstra (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew), 'Frieren' freshman Melissa Rios Medina (Mount Prospect, Ill./Hersey) and 'Immersed' sophomore Javier Rodriguez (Chicago, Ill./Hancock College Prep) were in competition on Saturday, February 3, taking on Concordia University-Ann Arbor (Mich.) in Great Lakes Esports Conference (GLEC) action. They lost to the Cardinals by a score of 2-0.
• Saint Xavier bounced back to defeat Marietta College (Ohio) 2-0 in a GLEC contest also on February 3.
• Saint Xavier earned a 2-0 GLEC victory over Defiance College (Ohio) on Saturday, February 10.

Rocket League:

• The Cougars swept CUAA in GLEC action on Saturday, February 3, 3-0.
• They went the distance in their best-of-five GLEC contest with Baldwin-Wallace University (Ohio) and came away with a 3-2 triumph.

Overwatch:

• The Overwatch team featured the five-person lineup of 'alphabet' sophomore William Barquero Roma (Miami, Fla./Archimedean Upper Conservatory), 'Twifts' senior Malachi Beard (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park), 'Citronboss27' sophomore Michael Guzaitis (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) and 'Glocktopus' senior Michael Hamm (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence). SXU played Albion College (Mich.) in a GLEC matchup on Saturday, February 3, but the suffered a 3-1 setback.

League of Legends:

• Saint Xavier began play in the College League of Legends (CLoL) North Open Division on Saturday, February 3. They started with a 2-0 win over University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, but lost to Illinois Institute of Technology later that day by a score of 2-1.
• The Cougars came away with a forfeit victory, 1-0, over Ball State University (Ind.)

Saint Xavier (38-40, 20-14 GLEC) will see Rocket League and Overwatch face Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) on Friday, February 16. Rocket League and SSBU are in action on Saturday, February 17, when SSBU plays Muskingum University (Ohio) and RL takes on Valparaiso University (Ind.). Overwatch matches up with Manchester University (Ind.) on Tuesday, February 20. SSBU and Overwatch are in GLEC action on Friday, February 23 with matches against Valparaiso and Bethel University (Ind.), respectively.
