Notre Dame, Ind. – Despite a career-high 30 points from junior guard
Aaliyahna Derrell (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sand Creek), Saint Xavier University women's basketball (15-10, 13-5 CCAC) lost to Holy Cross College (Ind.), 73-59, in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) contest Saturday afternoon at McKenna Arena in Notre Dame, Ind. Derrell drained a season-high five three-pointers on eight attempts (.625) and was 5-for-7 from the foul line, along with four rebounds, a block and a steal. Holy Cross outshot the Cougars from the foul line, going 25-for-28, while SXU went 14-for-18.
- Junior forward Alyssa Crenshaw (Algonquin, Ill./Dundee Crown) finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and an assist.
- Sophomore guard Jaidn Green (Evansville, Ind./Evansville North) scored six points, grabbed five rebounds and had a steal.
- Sophomore guard Lia Chudzik (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) also tallied six points, along with four rebounds and a steal in 20 minutes off the bench.
- Junior forward Sofie Carr (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) pulled down six rebounds, scored five points and she blocked a shot.
- Sophomore center Eleanor Harris (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) came away with a team-high nine rebounds, a game-high tying three blocked shots and an assist.
- Saint Xavier trailed by 10 points, 25-15 with 4:02 remaining in the second quarter, but the closed the half on a 15-5 run with Chudzik and Derrell leading the way. Derrell sank a three at the buzzer to tie the game at 30-30 at halftime and she scored 18 of her 30 points in the opening half. The Saints pulled away in the second half as they went 18-for-19 from the free throw line, while SXU was 7-for-8 in the final 20 minutes.
Saint Xavier (15-10/13-5 CCAC) celebrates 'Senior Night' on Wednesday, February 21 at the Shannon Center before their CCAC matchup with St. Ambrose University (Iowa). The game is slated for a 5:00 pm tipoff.
