Matt Pennala (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach City/St. John Bosco) continued his hot stretch, posting a season-high 19 kills on a .324 attack percentage (19-7-37), however the No. 11 ranked Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team (6-6/3-0 CCAC) saw its six-match winning streak come to an and as they lost to No. 9 Georgetown College (Ky.) in four sets (36-34, 18-25, 24-26, 16-25) Saturday evening at the Davis-Reid Alumni Gym in Georgetown, Ky. Pennala added seven digs, two blocks and an assist for the Cougars. With their 36-34 win in the first set, SXU set the program record for most points in a set, topping the previous record of 33 points that was tied earlier this season in the fourth set against then No. 5 and current No. 1 The Master's University (Calif.) in their season opener on January 25.
- Sophomore outside hitter Jan Lopuch (Krakow, Poland/I Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace Sportowego) collected 16 kills on a .321 attack percentage (16-6-32) and he came away with six digs.
- Sophomore outside hitter Oskar Krzyzak (Nowy Sacz, Poland/Szkota Mistrzostwa Sportowego Rzeszów) posted 10 kills, six digs and a service ace.
- Freshman setter Cameron Daniels (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) surpassed 40 or more assists for the third match in a row, and the fifth time this year, by handing out 46 assists. He also had eight digs and an ace.
- Junior middle blocker Alessandro Gianotti (Desio, Italy/Brigham Young/Leonardo Da Vinci) tallied eight kills, two digs, an assist and a solo block.
- Fifth-year senior middle blocker Drew Ehlers (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) recorded three blocks (two solos), three digs and three kills.
- Fifth-year senior setter Christian Oviedo (Brea, Calif./Concordia-Irvine/Servite) had seven assists and dig.
- Sophomore libero Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) registered a team-best 14 digs and he added an assist.
No. 11 Saint Xavier (6-6/3-0 CCAC) returns to action on Tuesday, March 5 when they start their Spring Break trip against No. 3 Vanguard University (Calif.). The match is scheduled for a 9:00 pm central start in Costa Mesa, Calif.
