No. 11 Saint Xavier Clipped by No. 3 Vanguard in Three Sets

Costa Mesa, Calif. – Sophomore outside hitter Jan Lopuch (Krakow, Poland/I Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace Sportowego) recorded a team-best 11 kills on a .474 attack percentage (11-2-19) for the No. 11 ranked Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team (6-7/3-0 CCAC) in a 3-0 loss to No. 3 Vanguard University (Calif.) (23-25, 19-25, 25-27) as the Cougars started their west coast Spring Break trip Tuesday evening at the OCC Gym in Costa Mesa, Calif. Lopuch added two blocks (one solo), a pair of service aces and a dig for SXU. It was the fourth time this season that Lopuch had an attack percentage of .400 percent or better this season and it was his ninth match with 10 or more kills.
  • Sophomore outside hitter Oskar Krzyzak (Nowy Sacz, Poland/Szkota Mistrzostwa Sportowego Rzeszów) registered nine kills, with three blocks (one solo), three digs and two aces.
  • Freshman setter Cameron Daniels (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) posted 21 assists, three digs and two blocks.
  • Junior outside hitter Matt Pennala (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach City/St. John Bosco) came away with six kills and four digs.
  • Junior middle blocker Alessandro Gianotti (Desio, Italy/Brigham Young/Leonardo Da Vinci) recorded five kills on six attack attempts and he added a pair of blocks.
  • Fifth-year senior middle blocker Drew Ehlers (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) tallied four blocks (one solo) and four kills.
  • Sophomore libero Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) finished with a team-high six digs and he added an assist.
  • Fifth-year senior setter Christian Oviedo (Brea, Calif./Concordia-Irvine/Servite) handed out 11 assists in one set on the court, while senior middle blocker Jake McClain (Homer Glen, Ill./Marist) had a block and a service ace.
No. 11 Saint Xavier (6-7/3-0 CCAC) has a quick turnaround as they face No. 1 The Master's University on Wednesday, March 6 in Santa Clarita, Calif. The match is slated for a 9:00 pm central first serve.
