CHICAGO - The Saint Xavier University Cheerleading team is thrilled to announce early season wins at this summer's UCA Cheer Camp held in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. over the weekend. The team's outstanding performance and spirit earned them the coveted Superior Cheer Award and SXU mascot, Champ, also won an award for Most improved Mascot - a first in the school's history.
Â
The UCA Cheer Camp, known for its rigorous schedule and high-energy environment, brought together some of the best cheer teams from across the region, including several Big 10 programs. This is the first year the cheerleaders and mascot have attended camp and together, they received coaching in sideline routines, safety awareness, spirit prop use, stunt class, goal setting, pyramid building, game day traditions, motion technique, mascot effectiveness, and stunt troubleshooting from UCA and USA Cheer Team members. Their dedication and hard work were rewarded with top honors in both cheer routines and mascot categories.
Â
"I am incredibly proud of our cheerleading team and mascot for their incredible performances while at Spirit Camp," said head coach Sitaara Jones. "Their commitment and team spirit were evident in every routine. This victory is an early one and a testament to the team's talent, hard work, and desire to improve."
Â
The team's next challenge will be cheering on the Cougars from the sidelines, where they aim to build on their spirit camp success and impress the crowd with new game day traditions, school spirit, and skills. Be sure to check out the team at a home game this season!
