Hammond, Ind. – Saint Xavier University men's soccer (0-6-1, 0-0 CCAC) lost to NCAA Division II Purdue University Northwest (Ind.) Tuesday afternoon at Pepsi Field in Hammond, Ind. Senior midfielder
Francisco Espinoza (Lansing, Ill./Illinois-Chicago/T.F. South) paced the SXU offense with a pair of shots on goal while logging 71 minutes of action. The host Pride out-shot Saint Xavier by a 13-5 margin in the match-up of former Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foes.
- Senior midfielder Nick Tamayo (Palos Park, Ill./North Central/Stagg) and freshman forward Cristian Morales (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) each had a shot on goal, respectively, for the Cougars.
- Redshirt junior goalkeeper Joel Estrada (Chicago, Ill./Solorio Academy) made the start in goal and finished with match with five saves.
- PNW struck first with a goal in just the second minute of play to take a quick 1-0 lead. They would score again a little over two minutes later in the fourth minute to hold a 2-0 advantage.
- The Pride extended its lead to 3-0 in the 12th minute and they scored once more in the 18th minute to carry a 4-0 lead into the halftime break.
- Purdue Northwest capped the scoring in the 59th minute for the non-conference win.
Saint Xavier (0-6-1/0-0 CCAC) begins CCAC play when they take on Indiana University Northwest on Friday, September 20. The match is set for a 12:00 pm kickoff in Crown Point, Ind.
