Estrada Posts Shutout in 0-0 for SXU at IU Northwest

Crown Point, Ind. – Redshirt junior goalkeeper Joel Estrada (Chicago, Ill./Solorio Academy) finished the match with a clean sheet for his first shutout of the season and he recorded three saves to help the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team (0-6-2, 0-0-1 CCAC) earn a 0-0 draw with Indiana University Northwest to begin Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play Tuesday afternoon at the Sparta Dome in Crown Point, Ind. SXU had 13 shot attempts to the eight by IUN. For Estrada, it was the first time in his collegiate career that he registered a tie while in net.
  • Junior defender Jessie Cardiel (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) tallied a match-high tying three shot attempts and he had two shots on goal while playing all 90 minutes.
  • Senior defender Valente Lara Jr. (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) had two shots on goal and he also logged 90 minutes of action on the pitch.
  • Junior midfielder Omar Aparicio (Chicago, Ill./Hancock College Prep), sophomore midfielder Aidan Breslin (Crestwood, Ill./Western Illinois/Shepard) and freshman forward Cristian Morales (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) each had two shot attempts and one shot on goal, respectively.
  • Cardiel had two shots saved by the RedHawks in the first half, first in the 5th minute by the goalkeeper and his shot in the 11th minute, setup by a corner kick was turned away with a defensive team save by Indiana Northwest.
  • Estrada had one save in the first 45 minutes of play, stopping a shot on goal in the 27th minute. He was tested early in the second half, making a save in the 49th minute. Estrada's final save came late in the match in the 82nd minute.
Saint Xavier (0-6-2/0-0-1 CCAC) returns to Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field to host Viterbo University (Wis.) in CCAC competition on Tuesday, September 24. The match is slated for a 7:30 pm kickoff.
