Joel Estrada (Chicago, Ill./Solorio Academy) made seven saves to record his second consecutive shutout to help guide the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team (0-6-3, 0-0-2 CCAC) to a 0-0 draw with Viterbo University (Wis.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Tuesday evening at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago, Ill. Both goalkeepers finished the match with seven saves with Estrada making four stops in the first half and his counterpart had three. The saves flipped in the second half as Estrada came away with three saves.
- Sophomore midfielder Aidan Breslin (Crestwood, Ill./Western Illinois/Shepard) led SXU with four shot attempts and three shots on goal in 81 minutes of action.
- Senior defender Valente Lara Jr. (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) had two shots on goal and he also logged 90 minutes of action on the pitch.
- Senior midfielder Nick Tamayo (Palos Park, Ill./North Central/Stagg), junior midfielder Omar Aparicio (Chicago, Ill./Hancock College Prep), junior midfielder Pedro Guzman (Burbank, Ill./Moraine Valley/Reavis) and freshman forward Cristian Morales (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) each had one shot on goal, respectively.
- Guzman had an early look in the third minute of play that was stopped. Estrada collected three saves over a three-minute stretch in the 14th, 15th and 17th minutes. Breslin lined a freekick in the 24th minute that was saved and the match would remain scoreless at halftime.
- Off the opening kick to start the second half, Breslin had a shot inside the 18-yard box that went high over the crossbar in the 46th minute. Estrada made a pair of saves in the 64th and 65th minutes, respectively, to halt a V-Hawk run. Breslin provided an outburst late in the match as he had shots saved in the 82nd and 83rd minutes.
Saint Xavier (0-6-3/0-0-2 CCAC) takes on St. Ambrose University (Iowa) in a CCAC contest on Saturday, September 28 at Deaton Field in Chicago, Ill. The match is set for an 11:30 am kickoff.
