Rodrigo Hernandez (Bridgeview, Ill./Stagg) scored his first collegiate goal for the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team (0-3-1, 0-0 CCAC) in a 1-1 draw with Cornerstone University (Mich.) Saturday afternoon at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago, Ill. The Cougars held a 13-10 advantage in shots and both teams made five saves on the afternoon. Junior goalkeeper
Daniel Martinez (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) made his second start of the season with five stops and sees his record go to 0-1-1 while in net.
- Senior midfielder Saul Camacho (Summit, Ill./Elmhurst/St. Laurence) tallied a match-high three shot attempts in his 55 minutes of action.
- Senior midfielder Francisco Espinoza (Langsing, Ill./Illinois-Chicago/T.F. South) had a pair of shot attempts with a shot on goal as well as an assist.
- Sophomore midfielder Aidan Breslin (Crestwood, Ill./Western Illinois/Shepard) also recorded two shot attempts with a shot on goal.
- Freshman midfielder/forward Eduardo Perez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) came away with a pair of shots on goal in 31 minutes off the bench.
- Breslin had an early scoring opportunity in the eighth minute that was turned away. Martinez made three saves in a six-minute span from the 19th minute to the 24th minute in the first half. Perez had a good look at the net in the 42nd minute that was stopped by the Cornerstone goalkeeper.
- In the 68th minute, Hernandez received a pass from midfield from Espinoza and he found the back of the net to give SXU a 1-0 lead.
- The Golden Eagles tied the match in the 84th minute after Martinez made a save, however CU was able to gather the rebound and score the equalizer.
Saint Xavier (0-3-1/0-0 CCAC) welcomes Huntington University (Ind.) to Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field on Wednesday, September 11. The match is slated for a 7:00 pm start.
