CHICAGO – The Saint Xavier University women's soccer team (5-4-4, 4-1-3 CCAC) lost its first match in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play after a 1-0 setback to Holy Cross College (Ind.) Saturday evening at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago, Ill. on Homecoming. The loss ended SXU's seven-match unbeaten streak. Graduate student forward
Maddie Manzke (Orland Park, Ill./Keiser/Webber International/Warner/Sandburg) paced the Cougars with three shot attempts and three shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper
Natalie Dybas (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) collected four saves in the match. Saint Xavier came away with a 14-7 shot advantage.
- Senior midfielder Veronica Davila (Bourbonnais, Ill./Governors State/Bradley-Bourbonnais) had three shot attempts.
- Senior midfielder Vicki Ferrer (Cicero, Ill./Morton/Morton East) and freshman midfielder Paige Swaw (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) each came away with two shot attempts and one shot on goal, respectively.
- Junior forward Alex Jonaitis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) added a pair of shot attempts while playing all 90 minutes.
- Jonaitis had a shot hit the crossbar in the second minute of action.
- Dybas made two saves in each half.
- The Saints recorded the lone goal of the match in the 76th minute on a free kick.
Saint Xavier (5-4-4/4-1-2 CCAC) makes the trip to Joliet, Ill. to take on University of St. Francis in conference play on Wednesday, October 15. The match is set for a 7:00 pm kickoff.
