Nicole Grochola (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) tied her career-high with 14 kills, and she added a team-best three blocks, to help the Saint Xavier University women's volleyball team (11-6, 9-3 CCAC) earn a four-set victory (25-23, 25-22, 16-25, 25-20) over Governors State University (Ill.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Tuesday night on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill. Samantha Hovey (Mackinaw, Ill./Heartland/Dee-Mack) hit a career milestone for the Cougars, becoming only the 17
th player in program history to collect 1,000 or more assists. She is No. 17 all-time at SXU now with 1,023 assists. Hovey finished the match with 29 assists, nine digs, nine kills and a block.

Abbey Opilka (Dyer, Ind./Hanover Central) posted her second double-double of the season, totaling 12 assists and a season-high tying 11 digs, while adding a service ace. With Saint Xavier trailing 12-9 in the fourth set, Opilka held serve to change the momentum, forcing two GSU timeouts, and giving the Cougars a 17-12 advantage. SXU maintained a two-point lead down the stretch to come away with the conference win.
- Fifth year senior libero Avanna Martinez (Coamo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Ponceno) continues to be a force defensively, collecting a match-best 29 digs. She also had four assists.
- Senior outside hitter Jenny Jensen (Orland Park, Ill./Cardinal Stritch/Sandburg) tallied nine kills and a pair of digs.
- Sophomore middle blocker Carrington Smith (Flossmoor, Ill./Marian Catholic) filled the box score with eight kills, two aces, two blocks (one solo), an assist and a dig.
- Senior outside hitter Tara Glynn (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards) tied her season-high in kills with seven. She added two digs and a block.
- Graduate student defensive specialist Katie DeHaan (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) came away with six digs, three service aces and her second kill of the season.
- Sophomore libero/defensive specialist Taylor Vann (Oklahoma City, Okla./Bishop McGuinness Catholic) registered seven digs and an ace, while Senior defensive specialist Ariel Hoskin (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) added four digs.
- Sophomore middle blocker Eva Wintersteen (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) had a career-best three kills, her first two collegiate blocks and her first collegiate dig. She tallied the winning kill for the Cougars.
Saint Xavier (11-6/9-3 CCAC) has a bye week in the conference schedule and returns to the court on October 21 when they host Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in conference play. The match is slated for a 7:00 pm first serve.
