Ben Morrey (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) finished 21
st overall and 20
th in scoring while establishing a new personal record (PR) in an 8K race, taking nearly 45 seconds off of his old PR with a time of 25:30.4 for the Saint Xavier University men's cross country team at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge hosted by Aquinas College (Mich.) at Riverside Park Saturday morning in Grand Rapids, Mich. Morrey was one of several Cougar runners to set new PRs on the course. As a team, SXU placed ninth out of 27 teams in the Men's 8K – White competition with a score of 217. No. 2 Indiana Wesleyan University won the race with a total of 94, while Martin Batel from Campbellsville University (Ky.) had the best individual time at 24:26.40.
- Sophomore Joey Lagattolla (Romeoville, Ill./Plainfield East) demolished his previous PR, set earlier this season, by over a minute and 19 seconds, finishing 29th overall and 28th in scoring at 25:37.1.
- Senior Rohindeep Bhattal (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) knocked over 20 seconds off of his previous best time, clocking in at 25:43.8 for a 35th place draw, 34th in scoring.
- Sophomore Trey Maciejewski (Rensselaer, Ind./Rensselaer Central) PR'd by over a minute and seven seconds with his 75th place time of 26:24.9.
- Sophomore Xavier Sananisai (Rockford, Ill./Jefferson) was stride-for-stride with his teammate, and he smashed his old PR by nearly 90 seconds, crossing at 26:24.9 to place 76th.
- Junior Alejandro Velazquez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) set a new PR by 48 seconds, doing so in consecutive meets, with his 79th place mark of 26:27.9.
- Freshman Michal Wreczycki Jr. (Palos Park, Ill./Stagg) crushed his previous PR by almost 50 seconds with a time of 26:44.0 to finish 96th. It was his second straight race setting a new PR.
- Junior Luis Lopez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) posted his second-best time of the season, and third-best in his career, checking in at 26:53.8.
- Freshman Will Morrey (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) logged his second-fastest career time after he crossed the line at 26:58.2.
- Junior Andy Damon (Crestwood, Ill./Oak Forest) ran his third-fastest time of the season and of his career, clocking in at 27:55.8.
- Freshman Joey D'anca (Palos Heights, Ill./St. Laurence) destroyed his old PR by almost two minutes, recording a time of 28:05.5.
Saint Xavier gears up for the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Championships that take place on Saturday, November 8 at Aspen Ridge Golf Course in Bourbonnais, Ill. The race is scheduled for a 10:30 am start.
