Daniel Martinez (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) collected five saves to come away with his fourth shutout of the year as the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team (7-3-2, 2-1-1 CCAC) tied Judson University (Ill.), 0-0, in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play Saturday afternoon at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago, Ill. The Cougars were outshot 13-4 on a day when the temperatures were in the min-80's throughout the match.
- Fifth year senior midfielder Saul Camacho (Summit, Ill./Elmhurst/St. Laurence), junior midfielder/forward Yael Diaz (Chicago, Ill./Moraine Valley/Hubbard) and sophomore midfielder Balys Zamalaitis (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) each had one shot on goal, respectively.
- Junior midfielder Mark Vitaliy Hul (Ternopil, Ukraine/Moraine Valley/TSSH No. 29) had a shot attempt as well in 80 minutes of play.
- Helping Martinez in the shutout were his backline of Diaz, senior defender/midfielder Daniel Diaz (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West), redshirt freshman defender/midfielder Cristian Tamayo (Orland Park, Ill./Illinois-Chicago/Sandburg) and sophomore defender Jack Dudzik (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East).
- Hul had a shot go high after he had a good look at the goal in the sixth minute.
- A shot by the Eagles hit the post in the 14th minute and another hit the crossbar in the 24th minute.
- Martinez made four of his five saves in the first half.
- In the 82nd minute, Diaz took a freekick from 40 yards out that was stopped by the JU keeper.
- Judson had a scoring chance in the 90th minute that hit the crossbar again.
Saint Xavier (7-3-2/2-1-1 CCAC) makes its way to Davenport, Iowa to take on St. Ambrose University (Iowa) in a CCAC contest on Wednesday, October 8. The match is set for a 5:00 pm start.
