Aguilera Guides SXU to 2-0 Victory over St. Ambrose

Davenport, Iowa – Redshirt senior forward Jaedan Aguilera (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere North) tallied his team-leading seventh goal of the season, and he assisted on the second goal of the match to help lead Saint Xavier University men's soccer (8-3-2, 3-1-1 CCAC) to a 2-0 triumph over St. Ambrose University in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) contest Wednesday evening in Davenport, Iowa. Aguilera is now the team leader for the Cougars in assists as well, recording his fourth of the season on an insurance goal by sophomore forward Diego Garcia (Chicago, Ill./Hope Academy). Redshirt junior goalkeeper Daniel Martinez (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) finished the match with four saves to come away with his fifth clean sheet of the season.
  • Aguilera totaled a match-high six shot attempts and five shots on goal in 73 minutes of play.
  • Junior midfielder Mark Vitaliy Hul (Ternopil, Ukraine/Moraine Valley/TSSH No. 29) picked up an assist on Aguilera's goal, his second of the year, while adding two shot attempts and one shot on goal in 76 minutes of action.
  • Each team finished the match with 14 shot attempts with SXU registering eight shots on goal to SAU's four.
  • Saint Xavier had five corner kicks in the first half, however they were unable to get on the scoreboard. Martinez made one save in the first 45 minutes, a stop in the 25th minute.
  • In the 61st minute, Aguilera knocked in a rebounded save after Hul's shot was stopped to give the Cougars a 1-0 advantage.
  • A little over two minutes later in the 63rd minute, Aguilera connected with Garcia who converted the shot into his fourth goal of the campaign.
  • Martinez made a pair of saves only 30 seconds apart in the 79th and 80th minutes, respectively, to help secure the road win.
Saint Xavier (8-3-2/3-1-1 CCAC) returns to Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field to play Indiana University Northwest in conference action on Saturday, October 11. The match is slated for a 7:30 pm start in Chicago, Ill.
