Manzke Nets Goal for SXU in 1-1 Tie vs. St. Ambrose

CHICAGO – Graduate student forward Maddie Manzke (Orland Park, Ill./Keiser/Webber International/Warner/Sandburg) scored her third goal of the season, just 35 seconds into the contest, whoever the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team (5-3-4, 4-0-3 CCAC) tied St. Ambrose University, 1-1, Tuesday evening in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago, Ill. The Cougars saw their shutout streak come to an end in the fifth minute of play when the Fighting Bees tallied the tying goal. Junior goalkeeper Natalie Dybas (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) finished with six saves for SXU. She tied her career high for ties, as she now has four on the season, set last season, and is the program leader for ties with 11. Saint Xavier maintains its one-point lead over St. Ambrose for first place in the CCAC.
  • Senior midfielder Hope Lewis (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) picked up her first assist of the season while logging 90 minutes of action.
  • Senior midfielder Veronica Davila (Bourbonnais, Ill./Governors State/Bradley-Bourbonnais) came away with a team-best two shot attempts in 90 minutes on the pitch.
  • Junior defender Klair Heim (Denver, Iowa/Iowa Central/Denver) and Junior forward Alex Jonaitis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) both had a shot on goal in 90 minutes, respectively.
  • Shortly after the opening kickoff, Lewis sent a pass down the near side of the pitch that allowed Manzke to pull away from the defender, and she rocketed a shot into the back for the net for a quick 1-0 lead.
  • SAU squared the match at 1-1 when the Fighting Bees raced in from the left side of the pitch, and a cross pass found the striker that sent a shot past Dybas just four minutes later.
Saint Xavier (5-3-4/4-0-2 CCAC) takes on Holy Cross College (Ind.) in a CCAC contest on Saturday, October 11 at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field. The match is set for a 5:00 pm kickoff in Chicago, Ill.
