Streamwood, Ill. – Senior quarterback
Dominic D'Ambrosio (Oak Forest, Ill./Andrew) threw for a career-high four touchdowns, and he added a rushing touchdown as the Saint Xavier University team (6-3, 2-1 MSFA Midwest) defeated Judson University (Ill.) in Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Midwest League action Saturday afternoon at Millennium Field in Streamwood, Ill. Overall, D'Ambrosio threw for 286 yards, completing 15 of 30 pass attempts, while rushing seven times for 25 yards. The Cougars scored a season-high in points and came away with a season-best 442 yards of total offense. It was the third time this year that SXU ran for 100 yards in a game, and the second time that they have passed for over 300 yards.
- Redshirt freshman Mathew Opat (Munster, Ind./Munster) went 2-for-4 with 21 passing yards and his second touchdown pass in 2025.
- Senior wide receiver Marquel Porter (Calumet Park, Ill./DuPage/Richards) had three receptions for 83 yards and two touchdowns.
- Fifth year senior wide receiver Ronnie Foster (Peoria Heights, Ill./Peoria Heights) made three catches for 39 yards and a score.
- Redshirt freshman wide receiver Kameron Hopkins (Bolingbrook, Ill./Minooka Community) also came away with three receptions for 45 yards.
- Redshirt junior wide receiver Mario Price (Chicago Heights, Ill./Calumet New Tech) had two catches for 24 yards and a touchdown, along with a kick return of 21 yards.
- Redshirt junior running back Joey Thompson (Homer Glen, Ill./Midland/Western Illinois/Mount Carmel) led the ground attack with 41 yards on 10 carries.
- Junior running back Jacob Fisher (Medora, Ill./Southwestern) rushed for 32 yards on seven attempts, scoring his first touchdown of the season.
- Freshman kicker Christian Casillas (Alsip, Ill./Eisenhower) drilled a season-long 45-yard field goal, his third field goal of 40 or more yards this year.
- Senior linebacker Chris Swayne (LaSalle, Ill./LaSalle-Peru Township) was credited with a team-leading six tackles (four solo) with two tackles for loss for two yards.
- Freshman defensive lineman Joshua Loera (Alsip, Ill./Marist) assisted on five tackles.
- Sophomore defensive back Zach Norred (Manteno, Ill./St. Rita) posted four solo tackles, a sack for a loss of 16 yards, a forced fumble and an interception.
- The Cougars scored on their opening drive, needing only two plays for 46 yards as D'Ambrosio connected with Foster at the 12:10 mark of the first quarter
- On their second possession, SXU went 66 yards on nine plays, ending with a 39-yard catch-and-run by Porter for a 14-0 lead with 6:52 to go.
- An interception by Norred set Saint Xavier up near midfield at their own 41-yard line. The offence scored for the third time in as many tries, going 59 yards on seven plays, capped by a three-yard touchdown pass from D'Ambrosio to Porter with just 48 seconds remaining in the opening period.
- The Eagles scored on a one-yard touchdown pass with 10:29 left in the second quarter after a 12-play, 59-yard drive.
- D'Ambrosio scored on a quarterback sneak from the one-yard line at the 5:39 mark of the second period.
- An 85-yard catch-and-run by JU with 1:32 to go cut the deficit in half to 28-14.
- As time expired, ending the first half, Casillas booted a 45-yard field goal through the uprights to give the Cougars a 31-14 halftime lead.
- Fisher scored on a 15-yard run on SXU's first drive of the second half, however the extra-point attempt failed, for a 37-14 advantage at 13:34.
- Judson responded with a 13-play; 65-yard drive that resulted in a 22-yard field midway through the frame at 9:28.
- The Eagles made it 37-24 after a five-yard run ended a nine-play, 67-yard drive with 4:10 remaining.
- Just seven seconds into the fourth quarter, D'Ambrosio found Price for a 12-yard touchdown pass to push the lead to 44-24.
- On the next possession, Opat hit Hatcher for a 19-yard strike to make it 50-24 with 11:20 left in regulation.
- JU scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown to cap the scoring, 50-31, with 2:22 to go.
Saint Xavier (6-3/2-1 MSFA Midwest) hosts No. 22 Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in MSFA Midwest League play at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field on Saturday, November 8. The game is set for a 12:00 pm kickoff.
