Saint Mary of the Woods, Ind. – Senior forward Davion Lawrence (Oak Lawn, Ill./Moraine Valley/Oak Lawn Community) tied his season-high with 20 points on 50.0 percent shooting (7-for-14) and he went 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, however the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team (1-4, 0-0 CCAC) lost on the road to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (Ind.) in non-conference play Wednesday evening at the Knoerle Center in Saint Mary of the Woods, Ind. Lawrence added six rebounds and a steal in 26 minutes on the court. It was the fifth consecutive game that Lawrence has scored in double figures to start the 2025-26 season.

Lawrence opened the scoring in the contest with a three-pointer. The Cougars would build a 17-10 advantage at the 15:38 mark after senior guard Mekhi Wilson (Covington, Ky./Iowa Central/Covington Catholic) knocked down a trey. The Pomeroys responded with a 9-0 run over the next three minutes to go up 20-19. Both teams traded the lead to end the half with senior guard Ike Nwaobi (York/Kilgore/Costal Bend/Westbrook) making a pair of foul shots to send SXU into the locker room with a 43-41 lead at the break.

Saint Xavier started the second half with senior guard Jerry Abushanab (Glendale Heights, Ill./Oklahoma Panhandle State/Southwest Baptist/Link Prep) draining consecutive threes to push its lead to 49-41. The Cougars maintained their lead until midway through the frame when SWMC tied the game at 70-70 with 9:49 remaining in regulation. Lawrence hit another three-pointer at the 7:24 mark for a 77-73 lead, however Saint Mary-of-the-Woods would retake the lead for good after a jumper, 81-79, with 5:24 to go.

• Abushanab finished with 18 points and four rebounds in 22 minutes of action.
• Redshirt junior guard DJ Wilson (Schaumburg, Ill./Maryville/Panola/Schaumburg) netted 12 points on 4-for-7 shooting from the with five rebounds, an assist and a steal in 29 minutes of play.
• Nwaobi collected 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals in 16 minutes off the bench.
• Mekhi Wilson scored six points with two rebounds and an assist.
• Junior forward Marko Tojagic (Belgrade, Serbia/Saint Andrews) tallied six points and three rebounds.
• Redshirt junior guard Mason Kibelkis (Peotone, Ill./Peotone) recorded five points and a rebound. Junior guard James Morgan (Chicago, Ill./South Suburban/Lincoln Land/East Chicago Central) also scored five points.
• Senior guard Ashton Atwater (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Valley/Ostego) totaled four assists, four points, a blocked shot, a rebound and a steal.
• Redshirt junior guard MJ Galimah (Coon Rapids, Mich./St. Cloud Tech/Riverland/Coon Rapids) had a game-high five steals and he scored three points.
• Redshirt sophomore guard Jordan Streeter (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) chipped in three rebounds, two assists, two points, a block and a steal.

Saint Xavier (1-4, 0-0 CCAC) wraps up its road trip with a non-conference contest at No. 15 Bethel University (Ind.) on Saturday, November 15. The game is set for a 1:00 pm central start in Mishawaka, Ind.
