Alaina Peetz (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) netted a career-best 16 points along with 14 rebounds, her second consecutive double-double, to help guide the Saint Xavier University women's basketball team (4-2, 2-0 CCAC) to a 67-52 victory over Holy Cross College (Ind.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Saturday afternoon on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill. The Cougars were tough defensively, forcing 25 turnovers and coming away with a season-high 13 steals, and holding the Saints to 36.4 percent (20-for-55) shooting from the floor and 23.5 percent (4-for-17) from three-point range. After falling behind 4-0 in the opening minute, Peetz drained her first collegiate three to put SXU up 7-4 during an 11-0 run, a lead they would not relinquish.
- Johnson added five rebounds and a steal in 24 minutes.
- Peetz had a game-high four steals with an assist and a blocked shot.
- Sophomore forward Veronica Bafia (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) tallied a double-double as well, collecting 11 points and 10 rebounds, her second straight game with a double-double to begin conference play. She also had two assists, two blocks and a pair of steals.
- Senior guard Jaidn Green (Evansville, Ind./Evansville North) totaled nine points, two rebounds and a steal.
- Freshman guard Julia Benjamin (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) registered six points, three assists and two rebounds.
- Sophomore guard Maeve Egan (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) scored six points as well, along with two rebounds, two steals and an assist.
- Freshman guard Elinor Lindal (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) chipped in two points and a steal in 16 minutes off the bench.
Saint Xavier (4-2/2-0 CCAC) hosts Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) in a CCAC contest on Wednesday, November 19 at the Shannon Center. The game is set for a 5:00 pm tip-off.
