Balanced Attack Guides SXU Men’s Basketball Past CCSJ, 94-63

CHICAGO – Senior forward Davion Lawrence (Oak Lawn, Ill./Moraine Valley/Oak Lawn Community) was one of four players to finish in double-figures, scoring a team-best 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field to help lead the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team (2-5, 1-0 CCAC) to a 94-63 victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) to being Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play Wednesday evening on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill. The Cougars scored 90 or more points for the fourth consecutive game, netting a season-high 94 points on a season-best 55.0 percent shooting (33-for-60) while also shooting a season-best 50.0 percent (11-for-22) from three-point range.

Senior guard Ike Nwaobi (York/Kilgore/Costal Bend/Westbrook) split a pair of foul shots, followed by a steal and a fast-break layup forcing a CCSJ timeout at the 15:54 mark to break a 10-10 tie. SXU maintained the lead for the rest of the contest, building a 49-35 lead heading into halftime. The Saint Xavier defense limited the Crimson Wave to 36.7 percent shooting (11-for-30) in the second half and holding Calumet St. Joseph to 28 points to earn their first conference win of the 2025-26 campaign.
  • Lawrence also had five rebounds and an assist in 24 minutes on the court.
  • Redshirt junior guard DJ Wilson (Schaumburg, Ill./Maryville/Panola/Schaumburg) came away with 13 points, two assists and a pair of rebounds. He went 6-for-7 from the free-throw line.
  • Junior guard James Morgan (Chicago, Ill./South Suburban/Lincoln Land/East Chicago Central) tallied a season-high 10 points while adding two assists and two rebounds.
  • Nwaobi tallied 10 points, four steals, two rebounds and an assist in 14 minutes off the bench.
  • Redshirt junior guard MJ Galimah (Coon Rapids, Mich./St. Cloud Tech/Riverland/Coon Rapids) collected nine points, a team-leading seven rebounds and a steal, also in 14 minutes as a reserve.
  • Senior guard Mekhi Wilson (Covington, Ky./Iowa Central/Covington Catholic) recorded eight points, two assists, two steals and a rebound.
  • Senior guard Jerry Abushanab (Glendale Heights, Ill./Oklahoma Panhandle State/Southwest Baptist/Link Prep) totaled seven points, six rebounds, four assists and a blocked shot.
  • Redshirt sophomore guard Jordan Streeter (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) registered six points, four rebounds, an assist and a steal.
  • Senior guard DJ Shelton (Chicago, Ill./Calumet St. Joseph/United Tribes Tech/Thornridge) also scored four points with a rebound and a steal.
  • Junior forward Marko Tojagic (Belgrade, Serbia/Saint Andrews) had four points, two rebounds and a block in the win.
Saint Xavier (2-5, 1-0 CCAC) plays Judson University (Ill.) in CCAC action at the Shannon Center on Saturday, November 22. The game is slated for a 3:00 pm tip-off.
