CHICAGO – Freshman guard
Brooklynn Johnson (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) came away with a career-high 30 points (9-for-16 from the floor, 3-for-6 from deep & 9-for-10 from the foul line), a career-best eight rebounds and a pair of steals to help lead Saint Xavier University women's basketball (6-2, 4-0 CCAC) to a 92-80 victory over Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Saturday afternoon on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill. The Cougars produced a season-high in points, rebounds with 54, assists with 20 and blocked shots with six. SXU also held the Tigers to a season low in points, and 22 points below their season average (102.6) coming into the contest.
After falling behind 5-2 in the opening minutes of play, Saint Xavier went on a 7-0 run over the next two and a half minutes to force an Olivet Nazarene timeout. A basket by ONU tied the game at 9-9 with 4:25 left in the first quarter, however the Cougars closed out the frame on a 17-4 run to head into the second period with a 26-14 advantage. SXU maintained its lead the remainder of the game, going up by as many as 22 points, early in the third quarter, 60-38. The Tigers would get as close to four points, 81-77, midway through the final period but a pair of made foul shots by senior guard
Jaidn Green (Evansville, Ind./Evansville North) kept the advantage to two or more possessions to close out the conference win.
- Sophomore forward Veronica Bafia (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) tallied 19 points with eight rebounds (six offensive), two assists, two steals and a block.
- Freshman forward Alaina Peetz (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) posted her third double-double of the year, grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds and netting 10 points. She also had a career-high four blocked shots with three steals and an assist.
- Freshman guard Elinor Lindal (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) scored a career-best nine points, going 3-for-3 from the field and 2-for-2 from beyond the arc, with two assists, two steals and a rebound in 17 minutes off the bench.
- Green finished with eight points, four assists and four rebounds in 25 minutes on the court.
- Sophomore guard Maeve Egan (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) recorded seven points, four rebounds and an assist.
- Sophomore guard Makayla Kelly (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) registered four points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
- Senior guard Lia Chudzik (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) dished out a season-high, and game-best, seven assists with three points, three rebounds and a block.
- Freshman guard Julia Benjamin (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) chipped in two points.
Saint Xavier (6-2/4-0 CCAC) travels to Huntington, Ind. to play Huntington University (Ind.) in non-conference action on Tuesday, November 25. The game is set for a 5:00 pm central start.
