Jaidn Green (Evansville, Ind./Evansville North) scored six of her team-high 22 points in the fourth quarter as the Saint Xavier University women's basketball team (2-0, 0-0 CCAC) limited Indiana University Columbus to just four points in the final frame for a 65-59 road win in Columbus, Ind. Brooklynn Johnson (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) eclipsed double-digits for the first time in her collegiate career, coming away with 16 points on 5-for-12 shooting, along with a pair of steals and a rebound. The Cougars shot 90.9 percent (10-for-11) from the free-throw line to IUN's 55.6 percent (5-for-9).
After a back-and-forth opening period that saw SXU down 13-10, they trailed by as many as seven points in the second quarter, 34-27, in the closing minutes before freshman forward
Alaina Peetz (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) made a buzzer-beating layup to end the half. The game remained close throughout the third period as Saint Xavier was down 55-51 entering the fourth quarter. The Cougar defense held the Pride to 16.7 percent shooting (2-for-12) in the final 10 minutes and forcing seven turnovers with five steals. Green made two of her three three-point attempts in the fourth quarter. SXU took the lead for good on a pair of made foul shots by Peetz midway through the frame.
- Peetz posted a game-high 11 rebounds, along with eight points on 3-for-5 shooting, three assists, three blocked shots and two steals.
- Sophomore guard Maeve Egan (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) tallied five points, three rebounds and a steal.
- Freshman guard Elinor Lindal (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) scored her first collegiate points, collecting five as she made two of her four field goal attempts.
- Senior guard Lia Chudzik (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) recorded four points, two rebounds and a steal.
- Freshman guard Julia Benjamin (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) grabbed four rebounds and scored her first collegiate three-pointer, totaling three points.
- Sophomore forward Veronica Bafia (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) chipped in four rebounds, three steals, two assists and two points.
Saint Xavier (2-0/0-0 CCAC) hosts the two-day Catholic Classic at the Shannon Center beginning on Friday, November 7. The first game sees No. 8 University of Saint Francis (Ind.) playing Indiana University Northwest at 5:00 pm, followed by a matchup between the Cougars and No. 5 Marian University (Ind.) at 7:00 pm on Bob Hallberg Court.
