SXU Women’s Track & Field Wins SAU Finals Week Invite

Davenport, Iowa – The Saint Xavier University women's track & field team won the St. Ambrose University (Iowa) Finals Week Invitational for the second season in a row, totaling 144 points, the second-most in team history, Friday afternoon in Davenport, Iowa. Graduate student Lexi Clarke (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet JC/Plainfield South) won the 600m with a school-record time of 1:32.79 seconds, the second-fastest in the NAIA so far this season, hitting the NAIA 'A' Standard. She was also a part of the 4x400 Relay team, along with graduate student Olivia Mathis (Akron, Ohio/Lourdes/St Vincent-St. Mary), senior Yanira Deana Paninka (Canary Island, Spain/Central Methodist/IES Jandia) and junior Amaya Rique (St. Louis, Mo./Mineral Area/Seckman) who broke the program record with their time of 3:54.32 seconds, placing first, and hitting the NAIA 'B' standard. Mathis narrowly missed breaking her own team record in the 1000m, finishing first at 2:57.57 to hit the NAIA 'B' Standard as well. Deana Paninka also hit the NAIA 'B' Standard in the 600m with her fastest career time at 1:34.59.

Senior Emerson Colins (New Lenox, Ill./St. Francis/Lincoln-Way West) tied her school record in the 60m Dash with her first-place time of 7.33 seconds. Sophomore Mariah James (Alsip, Ill./Shepard) established a new personal record (PR) for the second consecutive week after she finished first in the Weight Throw with a distance of 14.57m.
  • In the preliminaries of the 60m Dash, Colins qualified first at 7.81 seconds, while Rique clocked in at 7.85 seconds, third overall, but she did not run in the finals. Freshman Nyaa Williams (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville) recorded a mark of 8.63 seconds, just ahead of freshman Paola Mireles (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) and her time of 8.71 seconds in her debut in the event.
  • Colins bested her own team record in the 200m, placing second at 25.69 seconds, while Williams logged a season-best and new PR of 27.17 seconds to place fifth.
  • Freshman Alesi Rodriguez (St. John, Ind./Merrillville) finished eighth overall in the 400m with a new PR of 1:06.19. Sophomore Sophia Thomas (Highland, Ill./Highland) was ninth after booking a PR as well with her time of 1:07.93
  • Placing third in the 600m, Rique eclipsed her old PR by four seconds at 1:39.93, while Junior Isabel Calderon (Orland Park, Ill./Olivet Nazarene/Sandburg) made her debut in the race, crossing at 1:44.29 to finish sixth overall.
  • Freshman Ava Scheering (Hebron, Ind./Hebron) competed in the 1000m as well, recording a time of 3:27.17.
  • Junior Alexia Guzman (Chicago, Ill./Solorio Academy) demolished her previous PR in the Mile by nearly 15 seconds with her sixth-place mark of 6:04.94. Senior Isabella Alatorre (Blue Island, Ill./Eisenhower) posted her second-best career time at 6:06.18 to place seventh. Freshman Jiselle Aldrete (Chicago, Ill./Marist), debuting in the race, was 10th overall at 6:49.95.
  • In the 60m Hurdles, junior Rashiya Warfield (Lansing, Ill./T.F. South) qualified with a time of 9.36 seconds, as did Rodriguez, competing for the first time in the disciple, at 11.58 seconds. In the finals, Warfield took second with her time of 9.37 seconds, while Rodriguez was sixth at 11.78 seconds.
  • Also racing in the 4x400 Relay, the 'B' group of Calderon, Rodriguez, Williams and Warfield finished third at 4:21.94.
  • Colins posted the fourth-best jump in team history in the Long Jump with her second-place distance of 5.45m. Warfield set a new PR with her jump of 5.14m to take fourth. Thomas claimed fifth place with a PR of 4.95m. Mireles took ninth, joining her teammates with a PR jump of 4.18m.
  • Senior Jamie Sierocki (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) logged a season-best throw of 12.06m in the Shot Put for a second-place finish. James logged a season-best toss as well, finishing fourth at 11.58m. Freshman Alexa Pena Flores (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) was sixth after booking a PR throw of 11.31m. Freshman Brooke Becker (Tinley Park, Ill./Tinley Park) recorded a PR as well, placing ninth at 10.79m.
  • In the Weight Throw, Sierocki finished seventh with a distance of 12.73m, Pena Flores PR'd again after a throw of 11.89m to place ninth, while Becker came away with a toss of 11.18m.
Saint Xavier travels back to Davenport, Iowa, after the holiday break, to participate in the St. Ambrose Bumble Rumble on Saturday, January 17.
