No. 10 SXU Men’s Bowling Concludes Season at ITC Sectionals

Allen Park, Mich. – The No. 10 ranked Saint Xavier University men's bowling team wrapped up the 2024-25 this weekend competing in the Intercollegiate Singles Championships (ISC) and the Intercollegiate Team Championships (ITC) at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Mich. The Cougars had seven bowlers compete in the ISC tournament last Friday. Junior Bobby Habetler (Park Ridge, Ill./Indiana Tech/St. Patrick) posted the top score for SXU, totaling 1,344 pins across six games, and he just missed the cut to advance to the ISC National Tournament by 26 pins in a tie for 12th place. The top five individual scorers qualify for the ISC National Tournament that begins on Tuesday, April 15 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Saint Xavier bowled 64 Baker Games on Saturday and Sunday, 32 games across two sessions on each day. The Cougars were in a tie for 13th place out of 20 teams on Saturday with 5,991 pins, along with Madonna University (Mich.). On Sunday, SXU moved up two spots finishing 11th overall with 12,314 pins. The top four teams from the sectional, Muskingum University (Ohio), University of Pikeville (Ky.), Marian University (Ind.) and Lawrence Tech University (Mich.), advance to the ITC National Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev. starting on Thursday, April 17.
  • Habetler averaged a score of 224.0 with a high of 258 pins in game six. In the other five games, he posted scores of 213, 207, 237, 223 and 206.
  • Senior Timothy Novak (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) finished 47th overall with 1,269 pins for an average of 211.5. He knocked down a high of 259 pins in game six, while also hitting 200 or more pins in game one (224), game two (213) and game three (227).
  • Senior Nicholas Sternes (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson) was one pin behind his teammate, collecting 1,268 with an average score of 211.3 to place 48th. He tallied a high of 237 pins in game three. Sternes also surpassed 200 pins in game one (217), game two (218), game five (224) and game six (202).
  • Sophomore Andrew Rossini (Streamwood, Ill./South Elgin) toppled 1,256 pins to finish 58th and he averaged 209.3 pins per game. He hit a high of 244 pins in game three, along with 203 pins in game two, 214 pins in game four and 236 pins in game five.
  • Junior Danny LaBonte (Oak Lawn, Ill./Moraine Valley/Richards) tied for 71st with a total of 1,236 pins with an average of 206.0. He hit a high of 223 pins in game four, along with 203 in game one, 219 in game two and 212 pins in game six.
  • Junior Daniel Esguerra (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) placed 83rd after he collected 1,217 pins for an average of 202.8. He knocked over a high of 226 pins in games four and five, respectively. Esguerra also hit 208 pins in game two.
  • Junior Spencer Mosher (Ormond Beach, Fla./Concordia/Seabreeze) rounded out the field for Saint Xavier, recording a score of 1,162 pins with an average of 193.7 to finish 111th out of 180 bowlers. He posted a high of 227 pins out of the gate in game one.
