Gabe Kirck (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Olivet/De La Salle) drove in a pair of runs for the Cougars in a 15-5 setback that ended after seven innings.
Game One:
- Junior infielder Beau Polickey (Oak Lawn, Ill./Heartland/Brother Rice) was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a run scored.
- Orzech finished 1-for-3.
- Sophomore catcher Victor Zaragoza (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) went 1-for-2 with an RBI single.
- Senior pinch hitter Mason Johnson (Palmdale, Calif./Antelope Valley/Quartz Hill) drove in a run in his lone plate appearance.
- Sophomore infielder Troy Stukenberg (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) was 1-for-2 with a double and a run.
- Senior outfielder Sean Moore (Chicago, Ill./Calumet St. Joseph/Thornwood) stole two bases with a run scored after going 0-for-2.
- Sophomore pitcher/infielder Noah Dreier (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) made the start, lasting 1.1 innings with four hits, four runs (three earned) three walks and a strikeout to fall to 1-2 on the season.
- Senior pitcher Noah Scott (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) threw 2.0 innings of relief, allowing two hits, six runs (three earned) a walk and three strikeouts.
- Freshman pitcher Tyler Deluca (Minooka, Ill./Minooka Community) pitched 0.2 innings with two hits given up and a walk.
- Senior pitcher Logan Antrim (Effingham, Ill./Lincoln Land/St. Anthony) logged 2.0 innings, surrendering four hits, three earned runs, two walks and striking out two batters.
- Junior Nick Krueger (Clifton, Ill./Danville Area/Central) tossed an inning out of the bullpen, allowing one hit and walking one batter.
- St. Ambrose took a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st on an RBI double, an RBI single and a sacrifice fly.
- Orzech drove in Moore in the bottom of the 1st on an RBI groundout.
- A wild pitch scored a runner to give SAU a 4-1 lead in the top of the 2nd.
- The Fighting Bees added six runs in the top of the 4th to push their advantage to 10-1.
- Johnson pulled an RBI single through the left side of the infield to score Stukenberg in the bottom of the 5th.
- A two-run double extended the lead to 13-2 for St. Ambrose in the top of the 6th.
- In the bottom of the 6th, Orzech slugged his second home run of the season over the wall in center field.
- Zaragoza picked up his second RBI of the year on a base hit in the bottom of the 7th.
Game Two:
- Polickey had two hits in three at-bats with two stolen bases, an RBI, a run scored and a walk.
- Moore was 2-for-3 from the lead-off spot with an RBI a run, a steal and a walk.
- Dreier went 2-for-3 while playing the infield.
- Kirck drove in a pair of runs while going 1-for-3.
- Junior pitcher Thomas Plizga (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Olivet Nazarene/Fremd) toed the rubber in game two, going 2.2 innings and surrendering four hits, eight runs (four earned), two walks and recording one strikeout.
- Sophomore Garrett Benko (Chesterton, Ind./Andrean) saw 2.2 innings out of the bullpen, giving up four hits, three earned runs, two walks and posting three strikeouts.
- Redshirt freshman pitcher Jake Fenton (Chicago, Ill./Loras/Brother Rice) made his SXU debut, throwing 1.1 innings of relief, with two hits, three runs (two earned) two walks and three strikeouts.
- Junior pitcher Jarrett Kenyon (Henderson, Nev./Utah State Eastern/South Suburban/Coronado) logged 0.1 innings allowing a hit, a run and a strikeout.
- Orzech lifted a sacrifice fly to center field and Kirck collected an RBI on a groundout to put Saint Xavier ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the 1st.
- SAU got a run back in the top of the 2nd on a solo home run.
- Moore made it a two-run game in the bottom half of the inning with a sac fly.
- The Fighting Bees took the lead in the top of the 3rd after scoring seven runs to go up 8-3.
- Kirck lined an RBI single and Polickey followed with another RBI base hit to cut the deficit to 8-5 in the bottom of the 3rd.
- St. Ambrose plated three runs in the top of the 6th on a two-run single and a wild pitch. They added an RBI single and a three-run home run in the top of the 7th.
Saint Xavier (9-11/2-2 CCAC) returns to action after Spring Break when they play Judson University (Ill.) at Ferrell Field in a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 18. Game one is slated for a 12:00 pm start.
