CHICAGO – Behind a match-high 12 kills on a .455 attack percentage (12-2-22) from senior opposite hitter/setter
Matt Pennala (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach City/St. John Bosco), the No. 2 ranked and top-seeded Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team (27-0/12-0 CCAC) defeated No. 5 Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) in three sets (25-14, 25-18, 25-10) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament Semifinals Thursday evening on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill. to advance to the CCAC Tournament Championship. Pennala added five digs, three blocks (two solos), two service aces and an assist to help lead the Cougars to their sixth CCAC Championship appearance, and fifth straight with the 2020 season cancelled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
- Sophomore setter Cameron Daniels (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) totaled a match-best 30 assists with four blocks (one solo), four digs, two aces and a kill.
- Sophomore outside hitter Caydann Cox (Jamestown, N.D./Jamestown/Jamestown) came away with eight kills on a .389 attack percentage (8-1-18), along with four digs, three blocks (two solos), two service aces and an assist.
- Junior libero Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) posted a match-leading seven digs while adding two assists.
- Redshirt senior outside hitter Vejas Cuplinskas (Riverside, Ill./Riverside Brookfield) tallied six kills for SXU.
- Graduate student middle blocker Drew Ehlers (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) collected three aces, three blocks (one solo), three digs and three kills.
- Sophomore middle blocker Camden Steckler (Manteca, Calif./Jamestown/Manteca) recorded four kills on five attempts and three blocks.
- Senior outside hitter Kegan Olig (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) added a pair of kills in the win.
No. 2 and top-seeded Saint Xavier (27-0/12-0 CCAC) takes on No. 2 seed Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in the CCAC Tournament Championship on Saturday, April 19. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 pm first serve.
