Caydann Cox (Jamestown, N.D./Jamestown/Jamestown) established a new program record for points in a three-set match, finishing with 23.0 to help lead the No. 2 ranked Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team (24-0/11-0 CCAC) to a victory over Lourdes University (Ohio) (25-18, 25-20, 25-20) in their first match of the day in the second SXU Tri-Match of the season Saturday afternoon on Bob Hallberg Court at the Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill. Matt Pennala (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach City/St. John Bosco), each posted 18 kills in the match, tied for fifth-most in a three-set contest. In the second match of the day, senior outside hitter
Kegan Olig (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) registered a season-best 12 kills on a stellar .688 attack percentage (12-1-16) as the Cougars defeated Viterbo University (Wis.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play in three sets (25-15, 25-12, 25-10).
Match One:
- Cox finished with 18 kills on a .469 attack percentage (18-3-32) along with 10 digs, for his third double-double of the season, four service aces and two blocks. He broke the old record of 22.5 points held by former standout Aaron Porter (2010-12), who first did so on January 29, 2010, and tied by another former standout Sam Kull (2013-15) on March 17, 2015.
- Pennala had a .424 attack percentage (18-4-33) on his 18 kills, with five digs, an ace and a block.
- Sophomore setter Cameron Daniels (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) came away with 46 assists, his second-highest mark of the year, five digs and a kill.
- Graduate student middle blocker Drew Ehlers (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) finished with eight kills on a .500 attack percentage (8-2-12), two blocks and a dig.
- Junior libero Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) also tallied 10 digs for SXU, adding two assists and a service ace.
- Senior outside hitter Sean Carey (Skokie, Ill./Niles West) collected four digs, four kills and an assist.
- Sophomore middle blocker Camden Steckler (Manteca, Calif./Jamestown/Manteca) had four kills and a block, while sophomore setter Aaron Amawan (Hanover Park, Ill./Bartlett) chipped in a career-best three digs.
Match Two:
- Olig added a pair of digs and a block in the conference win. It was the third time in 2025 that he has had 10 or more kills in a match.
- Cox posted a match-high 10 digs with eight kills on a .471 attack percentage (8-0-17), four aces, three blocks (one solo) and an assist.
- Daniels handed out a match-leading 24 assists, along with two digs, two kills and two service aces.
- Junior opposite hitter Oskar Krzyzak (Now Sacz, Poland/Szkota Mistrzostwa Sportowego Rzeszow) came away with five kills, three aces, two blocks (one solo) and a dig.
- Velez recorded four digs, three assists and a kill, his third of the season.
- Steckler had four kills, three blocks (one solo) and a dig.
- Freshman middle blocker Kyle Petrusch (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) tallied two blocks and two kills.
- Amawan registered a career-high seven assists, a career-best four service aces, two kills and his first collegiate kill.
- Sophomore outside hitter Benen Flores (New Lenox, Ill./Clarke/Lincoln-Way West) tied his season-high with two kills.
- Senior defensive specialist Avery Chick (Newcastle, Wyo./Bethel/Campbellsville/Newcastle) added two digs.
- Sophomore libero Sam Trushel (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) held serve on 10 attempts and he scooped up a career-high two digs.
- Senior middle blocker/opposite hitter Joseph Peter (St. Peters, Mo./Fort Zumwalt South) made his collegiate debut, coming away with a kill.
- Junior middle blocker Chris Whitener (Huntington Beach, Calif./Golden West/Marina) made his debut for Saint Xavier, posting a kill.
- Junior outside hitter Daniel Scholvin (River Forest, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) notched his first collegiate service ace.
No. 2 Saint Xavier (24-0/10-0 CCAC) plays Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) on Tuesday, April 8 at the Shannon Center on 'Senior Night.' The match is slated for a 7:00 pm start.
