CHICAGO – Four members from the Saint Xavier University baseball team (33-24/20-12 CCAC) were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team when the awards were announced Tuesday morning. Graduate student designated hitter
Gabe Kirck (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Olivet/De La Salle), graduate student infielder
Taylor Steig (Corona, Calif./Olivet Nazarene/Redwoods/Santiago), junior catcher
Aaron Orzech (Shorewood, Ill./Crossroads Christian Academy) and sophomore infielder/pitcher
Noah Dreier (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) all earned the distinction. To qualify, a student-athlete must have a grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 or higher, have started or played at least 66.7 percent of their team's games and be a sophomore or higher.
From the academicallamerica.com website: the Academic All-District team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom. CSC divides the honorees into four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. By earning All-District, the winners advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Those honorees for First-, Second- & Third-Team Academic All-America will be announced on July 1.
- Dreier maintains a GPA of 3.97 as a Business Management major.
- Kirck is earning his Master's degree, while sporting a GPA of 3.66 after transferring from The University of Olivet (Mich.)
- Orzech majors in Exercise Science and has a 4.00 GPA in the classroom.
- Steig is also earning his Master's degree with a 3.66 GPA as well. He transferred to SXU after playing two seasons at Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.).
